I just woke up from my afternoon siesta I need to find a way to get Canada to adopt this and have the time to quickly reflect on the completely different world Greece can offer. After tear gas rock throwing and Molotov cocktails I am surrounded by sheer beauty. I am on the island of Crete the largest of the Greek islands. It is fairly short with only a 45 minute bus ride from north to sout

Rethymno 5 April 2011

Day 5.Today we drove to Rethymno to visit the old town port and the Fortezza fortress. Fascinating town with lots of very narrow streets young people everywhere we felt like the senior citizens. Had a nice lunch and wandered around the streets soaking up the atmosphere. The fortress was built by the Venetians starting in 1573ad. The mediterrean sea was blue as the sky and very calm today.

I wasn't originally planning on covering Rethymno on a separate blog entry but the place was so beautiful and I had taken so many photos that it most definitely warranted one.The bus ride along the northern coast of Crete was a scenic one as the bus snaked along the rocky cliffs that towered over the aquamarine sea.Rethymno's bus station is almost right on the water and the building is far too

Hi EveryoneMy trip through the Greek Islands was planned to take 9 days. I have heard great things about all the islands. While I was in Athens people would show up in at the hostel raving about what a great time it was on the Islands. The hard part was choosing which islands to see. I chose Crete Santorini and Mykonos. I chose Crete because it had several archeology sites as well as natura

6 hours on the ferry. The ferry was almost identical to the last but this one had rows and rows of bench seats on the deck which made for a more comfortable sleep. We arrived in Heraklion Crete expecting to find a guy with a sign and a van ready to drive us to his hotel. We walked off the ferry in the crowd and saw nothing. Nothing but friends and family waiting for others. No guy no sign nowh

We arrived in Athens at about 430 in the morning as our flight from Barcelona was delayed about 3 hours. This was not a good start but we were all optimistic about our streak of bad luck ending and were determined to make Greece a postive experience. We had to wait about 1 hour to get on the metro as it was not running yet and we were able to find our hostel very easily which was a first for u

Well I'm not exactly in Rethymno but will be soon. Currently I am in a charming little village called Katalagari. It is called Katalagari country suites and we are staying in a mini apartment with everything from a separate bed room to a flat screen TV with DVD player to a kitchen

When I tried it I ended up running circles in the sand clutching onto 70kg of Loggerhead turtle that was keen to get back to the sea I've done 2 night surveys now and they are amazing even if they do completely shatter you for the next few days. Seeing a turtle laying her eggs is one of the most magical sights I have ever witnessed. I never rea
