The Gibb River Road day 7

Our last day on the Gibb boo hoo. We had two walks ahead of us today but first time to chill out at Zebedee Springs. A Glorious naturally occurring hot water spring consisting of several pools linked by cascading waterfalls all at 32 degrees heat Reluctantly I was dragged out and hopped back on the bus to get to Amalie Gorge and then Emma Gorge. Each about a 3km walks with a beautiful pool at t

The Gibb River Road day 6

Today we were on a mission to get to El Questro in time to hop on the boat cruise down Chamberlain Gorge. We packed up and shot off to make it just in time to get ourselves booked on. What a relief as I didn't fancy a huge walk in the heat today and a leisurely boat cruise seemed to be a wonderful option Plus we got plenty of glasses of bubbly and fresh fruit on the return leg of the journey s

The Gibb River Road Day 34

Day 3 was spent mainly on the long bumpy road up to Mitchell Falls. Rory's daughter burnt her hand quite badly on the hot coals in the fire place the girls tended to like prodding and poking around the fire as you do It meant though that we needed to go to Drysdale Station to get the first aider to look at it and if need be fly her to a hospital. She was ok just got some special burn crea

I survived the night No nasty encounters and sleeping under the beautiful stars is something else. The Milky Way was right above our heads. We drove through the King Leopold Range today and stopped off at Bell gorge for a walk and a swim in the waterfall. Then we headed towards Galvins Gorge where we saw two big water monitors basking in the sun. At the waterfall and pool there was a swing rope

We left El Questro and went along Gibb River Road. We stopped for lunch at Ellenbrae Station where a goose chased me. He was big and white and pretty noisy. When we went inside we ordered a scone with jam and cream and had a drink. The scone was really big and very very very very yummy.Got to King Edward River campsite and spent a day relaxing. We got to go kayaking down the river.Drove t

Continued along Gibb River Road to Bell Gorge. The rocks were very slippery in the water at Bell Gorge if you took a step or two you just started sliding on your feet. Stayed at Windjana Gorge. Before we went to bed we went to Tunnel Creek. We had to walk through some water and some people how had already been through it told us that they saw some freshwater crocs. It scared the horrors ou

Drove along Gibb River Road wasnrsquot as bumpy as everyone had told us. Arrived at King Edward River Camp late. In the morning tried to catch some fish with a bucket. Had a swim and then went kayaking down the river. Didnrsquot go past a spot where the rocks made it very shallow. Came back had lunch and went down the river again as far as we could go. Next day packed up in the wind.

After our unexpected bog experience it was lovely to have a bit of a liein. In complete contrast to the mudsplattered states we were in the day before we relaxed round the pool in the morning while Ian went to rescue the bus which had been stood in the mud overnight. We all cheered when he finally came back avec bus Set off again in the afternoon after thanking the Parry Creek people for their

So off we set on our 4wd 9 day tour through the Kimberley to reach Darwin. We had booked the trip in Perth a few days after arrival and Kimberley Adventure Tours had come recommended. Certainly the vehicle was fairly new but this was to be expected as the gruelling terrain in the Kimberley makes wrecks of everything. Our driver cook and guide were all bundled into one very capable and instantly

Broome Derby and backtracking a little on The Gibb River Rd. Our 4 days respite at The Frangipani apartments in Broome was a little subliminal. Even the road from Derby to Broome had a point of difference to start with No corrigigaations and no red dust where were we going By now we had done some 9000kms and 7500 of them were on unsealed road so reddish looking bumps etc had by the

We called this next part of our journey as Survivor Manning Gorge with bloody good reason. When you read on you will understand why we called it this and that to frame the experience you need to understand that one of our biggest worries with this trip was a breakdown of equipment or bad weather locking us in somewhere longer than anticipated. We spent quite a bit of time and Amandarsquos mo

From Drysdale we went to Barnett Gorge just 30kms short of Barnett Roadhouse. Described to us in Ron Moonrsquos Kimberley Bible as a nice gorge and great swimming only 300m from the car park. Well it was the worlds longest 300m after what felt to be about 600m we came to the top of the gorge and then had another 1km to go before we could safely make our way into the gorge and go for a swim.
What can we say but WOW The trip to the camp ground was hard with the roughest roadtrackgap in the trees that either of us had ever seen but it was certainly worth it. After turning off the Gibb River Road we stayed at Drysdale Station overnight so we would be fresh for the 170 km assault. Filled up at 1.95 per litre for Diesel yes that is not a typo and frozen bread. The drive from Dry

We headed off onto the Gibb River Road for the first time to the ever popular and pricy El Questro Station and Wilderness Park. We visited Emma Gorge first which was a 2km walk over yet another river bed and very large boulders to a great clean water hole with towering cliffs and rugged walls. There were rain drops coming from the cliffs above but because they came through the rocks and cliff
