My sister had a couple of papers due early this week so she wanted to be able to do some homework.Saturday we went to the grocery store. Okay that's not sightseeing but it was a good accomplishment for us Later that day we went to Basildon Park House. It's just outside of Reading so it was easy to get to. Very

Peter has managed to put together a php script to allow Google Earth to dynamincally update from Flickr. What that means is that when we add new pictures and have them geotagged tagged with the location according to GPS location that they will be automatically show on Google Earth.http

Windsor Castle and family

Today my sister informed me that my blog has been somewhat boring lately. I pointed out that this was due to me being sick and therefore my LIFE had been somewhat boring. So to make up for that I can now say that I was able to do some sightseeing this past weekend.Saturday I went to Windsor Castle. I had a finite amount of time because I needed to be at my brother's around 500 PM. When I arri

Windsor Castle

Today I popped down to see the Queen at her Castle. She was busy so I wandered amongst the throng of tourists visiting her abode. Not too shabby. After doing a load of washing I headed through One Tree Hill gardens down to Honour Oak station. Chatted to a couple of biddy's at the station. In London no one says boo to a goose and I love to see the reaction when you start a conversation. First

No I haven't forgotten about the blog. I have been sick the last 2 weeks so I haven't done anything it was the flu and it has taken some time to get over it. I thought I was going to feel well enough to get out this past weekend but that didn't work. I'm hoping to get out this coming weekend. On another note I want to wish my sister a very happy birthday. And I want to wish my parents a very

Observations

I have decided that one of the best things about being in England right now is the close proximity of my brother and his family. I have been able to spend the day with them each of the two weekends that I have been here. It has been wonderful I am only an hour away by car. I have never lived this closely to them even in the USA. This past weekend I was able to help them just after they moved. T

Finding my way

This morning I decided to not use the GPS to get to work. I was fairly confident I could find my way even though I wasn't 100 sure about all of the roundabouts. However I was able to make it without any incidents Yeah I told my manager that this morning and he asked if I had been adventurous enough to go a different route. Maybe next week. I have to tell a story on myself. Last week I had

Here are the promised pictures of my flatToday I also learned how to use the washerdryer combo as well as the oven. I also picked up a few things for the flat like a clothes hamper and some hooks to hang things on in the bathroom. Not a very exciting day but a necessary one.Tomorrow I am heading to London to spend the day with my brother and his family.

Mirror

Yes it might seem silly but I am excited about a mirror. When I arrived at my flat there was no mirror over the sink in the bathroom which makes it difficult to do hair and makeup. I mentioned this at the office and the lady who had arranged everything for me put in a request to the management company. At first they weren't too keen on the idea because they were afraid they would have to dril

Well this morning was an adventure. I set out to drive to work on my own. I was armed with some info as to when to leave about 715 in order to miss traffic a GPS unit and my tea. Unfortunately the GPS wasn't working as expected. It would not pick up my location in Reading. I thought that I would be okay since I had studied the map on Google. Boy was I wrongI got out of Reading okay altho

Well I have started this blog to be able to share details about my time in the UK. My company has sent me here for about 6 months to work on a couple of projects. I am really excited about this since I have family nearby. I will be living in Reading Berkshire and working in Bracknell Berkshire. So I left the USA on Sunday evening. The flight was good and we even got in a little bit early. I go

Windsor Castle Visit

Today was Windsor Castle day and we hauled the kids out of bed at an obscenely early 8am to get there in time for the changing of the guard. The train ride was pleasant and efficient and the kids were suitably impressed with the speed at which the train traveled. It was nice to get out of the city and the castle was beautiful. Of course it started to rain just as the changing of the guard beg

Bike Drop Off

So this is it The point of no return we dropped the bike off to James Cargo at Heathrow for shipping to Anchorage via Minniapolis and Chicago. For safety reasons the bike has to go with less than 2 litres of fuel and nothing in the panniers. There is something very disconcerting about riding round the M25 with the range on the bike flashing which is what it does after it drops below

High tea with the Queen.

Today we went to visit the Queen at Windsor Castle and she was at home the flag was flying. While we were there the Changing of the Guard occurred. We visited the State Apartments and St George's Chapel. The guide was able to tell us about the extent of the damage caused by the fire in 1992 which took out the roof of the Great Hall and some other areas of the castle and then explained what
