Day 6 Ulvik to Gudvanger er that's it...

Thursday 4th SeptemberThere is another contender vying with Norwegian post card photographer for easiest job in the world. Norwegian weather forecaster. If you predicted rain every day you'd be wrong less than 10 of the time which is a far better ratio than the venerable Michael Fish. No wonder Munch painted the Scream. Jesus did it p1ss down today. Most days it has rained the memory of a sunny

Wednesday 3rd SeptemberWriting this blog seems to be the only way I can remember what daydate it is by checking yesterday's entry so I think it is fair to say I am now well and truly chilled.Woke up this morning and it was still raining marvellous. Call me hypocrite of the century but I immediately rebooked to stay another night in my cell. The place has kind of grown on me not the room

Disaster strikes... in Voss

Yesterday disaster struck. I'd just descended off my first big pass 650m up to the snow line just in the freezing rain and wind no probs. I didn't even take a break going up. On the way down my hands got so numb I could barely brake but I got down to the comparatively flat lake at the bottom just a few km from Voss when I somehow managed to crash in most bizarre fashion.I remember a car coming

Waterfalls thunder through the fog and mist when the bodyguards board the bus for our overland excursion from Gudvangen to Flam. Kathryn and many other passengers have chosen to stay on Voyager for the scenic ride up the fjord to Flam. The bus drives through a narrow valley a UNESCO heritage site to reach Stalheimskleive a narrow road that curves through 13 hairpin turns in less than a mile.
Gobsmacked

It's really the only word I can think of to begin to describe the sensation of taking the train from Oslo to Myrdal and from Myrdal to Flm. You slowly ascend through the gentle rolling farmland of southern Norway thinking oh this is pretty. But then you climb into hills and forested craggy mountains dotted with pristine lakes and you say this is spectacular. And still there's more. You bu

Once again more time on a train more ldquomerdquo time. On a train from Oslo to Myrdal as part of my ldquoNorway in a Nutshellrdquo tour. Things Irsquove realized I should probably definitely think about the weather where Irsquom going. Irsquom freezing and therersquos tons of snow on the ground. In June Why donrsquot I ever think Also I just saw a couple of houses with s

Day 40 15th. June 2006 Sunny all day We departed Bergen by train arriving at Myrdal. We did not undersatnd the message coming through and nearly did not get off in time before the train took off. We had to cross to the other platform by getting down onto the tracks which I had done when a very nice man offered to help me with my case just as someone yelled out train coming. With that I pick
