chasing sun and good times

Faced with a week of forecasted bad weather in Squamish and enough experience from a year of living in the area to believe the forecast we joined up with the rest of our friends from home and hatched plans to go to Skaha for a few days chasing the sun. The trip started with a night out in Vancouver drinking dancing to bad music and then crashing at Tim's place all 7 of us crashed out on Tim

Our return trip back through the Yukon Territories and British Columbia was relatively uneventful. Crossing the border from Alaska into Canada was somewhat anticlimactic. Preparing for the worst we expected the cavity searches and incessant interrogation that highlighted our first encounters with border crossing personnel when we were northbound. Rather we were dismissed to venture through the w

I have left a few South American entries out in the desire to write in the present tense again. At first I was thinking I would put entries up on the last couple of weeks in south America but I really do not think they warrant that much attention. Soon after Kate and Ruley left us Jono and I came down with the worst flu come chest infection either of us had had in years. We cancelled the hike we

16th July 2008We got up at 730pm this morning in Howe Sound Squamish. Amy went for a run as usual the rest of us went to explore the granite cliffs called the Stawamus Chief. The closer you get to it however the more difficult it was to see the scale of it or even see the cliff at all for the trees around the foot of it. We walked through the tall trees at the foot of the cliff which was also a

15th JulyThis will be the last entry until we get back to Guelph very early on Friday morning as we will be travelling all day tomorrow to catch the plane in Seattle. The day started well as I got all the laundry done and Amy got her her run before we set off to Whistler. What we had not realised was the road over the mountains was very windy and narrow so took a lot longer than we had anticipated.

Mid December was marked by death birth feasting and warm rum and cider. A lot for one weekend huh We went to see the bald headed eagles feasting on salmon at Brackendale with Tim and Barb which was pretty amazing. The bald headed eagle is apparently the only eagle unique to North America. They arrive on mass at the river running through Brackendale just near Squamish at this time of year D

Hi Bloggers Having a great time in Canada. I've been snow boarding for two days. It was absolutely brill but we had to wake up at 6 o clock that wasnt so good. When we got to the place where we were snowboarding there were other children there and i moved up a level the second day. If I go again I will be in level two. One of Fiendish's friends is on level 4 and did a big run. On the second day

Contrary to other entries it wasnt that bad we slept fitfully and the girls won prizes at Bingo Also before leaving in a desperate attempt to gain any sighting of wildlife we actually spotted Elk on the train tracksOn the train there is a viewing car which gives a good view o

This week Natalie flew to N. Carolina to drive back to WA with a friend. In the meantime I've been tying up loose ends and enjoying Bellingham just a bit longer. I also managed to squeeze in a climbing trip to squamish. Which is a beautiful little village about an hour north of Vancouver. The rock there is unbelievable and I had a friend to show me some of his favorite routes. John wild at heart

Jono and I decided this weekend to get off the beaten track and climb some where quieter that we had not been before. Last time we tried this we ended up sleeping in a gravel pit and climbing underneath someone who was throwing chunks of cliff on top of us. This time we opted for a secluded forested valley with towering granite gorges on both sides. Dark damp mossy eerie. Perfect. After about a

Well we are still in Vancouver but we have moved to ANOTHER place This time we should be here for two months up until August 13th. It is a one bedroom apartment still in downtown but in the west end. It is a nicer aspect than the last place and it has some views out to the water and sunset which is very nice.
