The Village people..not like YMCA

Ok...so its been an eventful few days and I have not been able to get online. First because I just didn't have time and now because the internet at the hospital is down. The computer lab has a sign saying that it is because of road construction between Vellore and Chennai 3 hrs however rumor has it that it is because it is the end of the month and the hospital is only allowed to have a certain

Ok...so correction from yesterday's blog. apparently Tamil movies are called Kollywoodnot Tollywood. I knew I had read somewhere that there was some ollywood here and assumed it was with a T because I am in Tamil Nadu however I was wrong. Never assume anything. So therefore I am a Kollywood star. That seems quite appropriate since my name is Kim. I think i may have a future career. After teach

Soits been a few days. sorry for that. I stayed in town for the weekend. Saturday was Republic Day. what is that you ask well...I did ask and here is the answer. duhit's the day India became a republic. I definitely felt like a genius after that one. sorry that as an ambassodor for the US we may now be thought of as stupid although I think certain political figures may have already taken care

Ok so first things first...I am on my way to the computer lab and a guy stops me. He is speaking perfect English but I am just looking at him not understanding what he was saying. He kept repeating but because of his tone of voice I couldn't grasp what it was he was trying to tell me I thought he was trying to ask me directions and couldn't understand why someone would stop the only very obvio

Ok so...things have been continuing to go well. A lot of the students have left and that has been a bit sad but I am sure some new ones will be coming. Some interesting things...yesterday I taught my hip class. It turns out that they don't see a lot of hip injuries or arthritis of the hip. I was thinking....hmmmm...is this because we are way more active in the US and more likely to wear out our h

So I just signed on here to attempt to finally share some pics. I saved them from my computer onto a memory stick although one of the med students told me he had trouble getting the computers to recognize his. I boasted that I hadnt yet had a problem with that and maybe he was doing something wrong. I now am unable to get the computer to recognize my memory stick. boo hoo. I even just took a pictu

So...I am sure you are all dying to know...teaching went very well yesterday. Yesit is true as some have suggested that I have to go 12 way around the world in order to get people to listen to me I have since realized that I have way over prepared. My first lecture was by far shorter than all the other ones and I was not able to get through it in 2 hours I have decided to scale back on techn

Ok so this is going to be short cause in a few minutes i have to head back to the department to begin my teaching... past few days have been great i have been working in the clinic and already have seen some things that i wouldn't normally get to see. yesterday was a holiday Happy Pongal to you all so it wasn't as busy as normal. So far the students have been the ones to really try to learn fro

so after my great day on saturday...yesterday was not off to such a great start i got up super early eager to venture on down to vellore. my taxi was supposed to arrive at 9 am. being me i showered ate breakfast packed checked out and was sitting in the lobby by 830. 9 rolls around and no taxi. 915 930 no taxi. 940 comes and i ask the front desk guy if this was normal. he said not at a

Snakes in the rain

A lot happens when you're not surrounded by the mundane. It's probably moreso a matter of the more liberal application of the tag happened. For example I bought an ice cream near my room and ate it while watching a rhesus monkey. No Solomon Shechter kid could make TCBY memorable. Most of my time is spent working on the project. That's been progressing nicely enough. You end up meeting some reall

The Longest Day Ever

It is only 5pm but this has been the longest day on record. There is surely some role for heat in relativity as time goes really slowly here. Anyway I got a tour of the hospital met my supervisor and got my translator. The hopital is pretty intense. First off it's huge and depending on where you draw your lines it's a roughly 2000 bed facility with about 4500 outpatients a day. Compare this

Don't Think Twice It's Alright

So. I'm not really sure where to begin here. I guess the basic rundown is good enough which is that I'm in Vellore now after having spent a couple of nights in Chennai Madras. Vellore is going to be my home base while I'm out here and despite being called cosmopolitan and Naomi having said that it's more quiet the word pandemonium comes to my mind as naturally as breath does to my body.W
