Good morning from Plymouth just a little tidbit before we move on from here. There are not a lot of older buildings in Plymouth because of the blitz during the war. This church although it has major bomb damage it39s been left as a reminder of the loss suffered at that time.On a lighter note it39s also in the center of a traffic circle. I know there are some of you who wouldn39t appreci

Well folks it was another jam packed day. We went to Stonehenge Bath. Definitely two places I could see again.Stonehenge really left me with an unexplained feeling awe is the only word I can think of to even capture my experience.Bath has got to be the most beautiful place I39ve visited so far on this trip. The Roman Baths were pretty awesome but the city was unbelievable. Our tour director

Working at Ceridwen

The work here has been varied. On the first week we cut down and pulled out dead raspberry bushes to clear the way for some grape vines Rob intends to grow in the future. This was hard work as the areas were about 60 ft. long and 4 foot wide and we cleared both sides one side of each polytunnels. It was pretty back breaking as some of the grass roots were deep and went on for metres. We also reco

Shed building The day the witch died

Rob39s workshop has been filled with chairs for Diana39s herbal medicine courses which he39s not been too pleased about. On a freezing cold day that Mrs. Thatcher died we built this shed. Its not a comparison on Robs shed in the woods which is built from far better material and really well insulated using polystyrene. Even on a day like today it was warm in there. We did enjoy bu

Looking after the ducks

Rob showed us the routine for the ducks in the morning of day two so this became AP and RM39s responsibility every morning. We feed them their grain give them water get their bath going from a baby39s outside tub that Rob found discarded and then they go off and forage for slugs through the day before we put them back in their pen in the evening so they are warm and safe from any fox

Hartland market and coastal walk

We helped Rob set up his monthly Sunday stall in Hartland Farmers Market. His van had broken down so we had to load up Charlie with all the goods. We had some breakfast and went for a walk with Juanjo and Naarah around Hartland Quay and saw a couple of waterfalls.

Walking Dartmoor

We went for a walk starting finishing in Bellstone. The high moors are a bleak but beautiful landscape supporting sheep and hardy plants like the Juniper tree and yellow flowered spikey bush Gorse. Some say it smells like coconuts AP thought so too but RM less so. It was both a cold and sunny day. We found a sheeps jaw bone which RM took with him for good luck but later went off of and left i

On Thursdays we pick food to sell at Tavistock Market on Fridays. One of us goes with Rob RM went on the first week AP on the second and Naarah on the third. The market has been going for about a thousand years. Its in a big hall and has many stalls selling all kinds of stuff food antiques clothing books etc. It has lots of local shops too cheese shop butchers fishmongers so you c

Changing seasons and new arrivals

On the first week we spent most mornings sawing firewood. AP39s technique was exemplary and beat RM on the first morning 2 to 1 though RM got the hang of it the following day. They use the wood in the rayburn in the kitchen cutting down on electric and gas bills. The wood provides a stove and oven a stand for heatingdrying hot water for washing bathing and the radiator in the bathroom. I

The orchard and the geese

Over the course of our stay we have been reluctant to enter the orchard where the geese are since on more than one occasion either AP or RM have legged it from the male goose It is mating season so the male goose is pretty feisty in protecting its female and territory. Diana was bitten by lets call him Biff which left a nasty bruise so this was even more reason to keep out of his way.The gee

For anyone who doesn39t know what Wwoofing is it stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. Organic farmers advertise the opportunities on their farms these can range from large farms to smallholdings. The organic produce can be a variety of things from meat vegetables fruit dairy nuts wood. The organisation has been running since the 1970s.Growing organically means growing wi

It was a fair journey without hiccups aside from a bit of bank holiday traffic on the M25.
Over the moor and on to Devon

Our original plan was to bike over Dartmoor where we would pass Grimspound the Neolithic site where Sherlock Holmes camped during the Hound of the Baskervilles. Our original timetable had us there on a full moon. The timetable was shot after several days of bike breakdowns walking up horrendous hills and difficulties in finding our route and running into detours. And then we heard numerous warn

Well this was probably the worst time of my life so far unfortunately my marriage was no longer working and I had feelings for someone else. Not much about travel in here but after 16 years of marriage it had to end and I called my mum not what I expected to do or happen after so many years the tears rolled down my face as I said goodbye to the kids and got into my mothers car to return to Bris
