Shenandoah National Park

A day of disappointment. Rich went to town to a truck repair shop that had been recommended by the RV Park owner. The diesel mechanic was out hunting and will be back tomorrow. In the meantime the mechanics who were there and the owner who RACES diesel pickups said that it was probably the fuel filter. So he got that changed. When he got back to the camper the truck sounded so much better Jo

A Road Trip Through Western Virginia

I think I now understand the appeal of crosscountry road trips that people partake on. While Europe has its many appeals and is attracting visitors despite the awful exchange rate there is a certain beauty across the American landscape that cannot be retrieved elsewhere. Even though my trip to western Virginia was confined to the Appalachian Mountains I can only imagine what is waiting for me

Day 83

Obfuscator writes After checking the weather report for the day and night we left our motel in Fredericksburg. The forecast was somewhat disappointing predicting rain all day and 1020 chance of rain in the night as well. While we were in civilization and not a huge city we figured we'd see about refitting some gear. A few nights ago when cooking one of our pots broke. These pots have

In the morning we woke up around 8am and started packing the dogs were already excited and they did not know what was happening. All they knew was we are packing for something and it looks fun. We finally had everything packed and ready to go around 1130. We picked up the last few things at WalMart some McDonalds breakfast.
A Beautiful Day for a Hike

We left the house as soon as we could heading to the Shenandoah National Park to hike in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. As we drove we decided to hike down Doyles Run but changed our mind at the restaurantservice station that is located at milepost 81. The lady working behind the counter said neither falls currently had any water flowing over them but she liked the hike down to the Jones R

Day 3

OK what started out to be a easy drive to Fredricksville Virgina ended up being a ten hour trip but who cares Driving through the national forests takes up a lot of time because the speed linits are 20 to 45mph any faster and you'll end up on the evening newsPart IIAfter getting some dinner at a local establishment I headed out for what I thought would be some great night images in W

After 3 days in DC and busily helping to set up Sierra in her new environs we fled to a peopleless area and are staying in a pretty amazing hotel in Warm Springs over the Blue Ridge Mnts in Virginia. The Warm Springs Motor Hotel which says nothing about the fact that it is the old Warm Springs Courthouse and we are staying in the converted jailhouse. It is very plush and totally filled with co

OD's comments 13.5 miles today. Seven days straight walking since coming back on the trail. Woke up to sun and clear skys. Getting out of camp quicker and made it out in 1.5hrs. Green is starting to cover the trees. There were green trees down lower but up here on the ridge they were still bare. Today we could almost see leafs come out and unfold. There will be total foliage by tomorrows sunset

OD's comments Started today at the Pinefield Hut near mile post 75 of Skyline Drive. We awoke to slightly cool air and the sun just coming over the ridge. We tried a semicold breakfast to see if we could get out of camp quicker. We hit the trail at 830AM an hour earlier than normal. We wanted the early start wit 13.9 miles ahead of us. We were just below the 2500' level when we hit the trail
