One day in Brunei

Feeling bored in tiny Singapore and having withdrawal symptoms from my traveladdiction I decided to take a short trip to Brunei and collect another stamp in my passport. Since direct flights between Singapore and BSB Bandar Seri Begawan were ridiculously expensive I chose to fly on AirAsia and transit at Kuala Lumpur. Upon arrival at BSB airport it was already 8pm and there were no more

The story goes a little something like this.........Tired of working the cold miserable winter looking for a break from the monotonous routine. The plan was that Saurabh was going to come and visit at the end of July. So I had booked my leave at work. Leave booked from 27th July 10th Aug. Last week of work and Saurabh still procrastinating no plans of coming no visas applied for nothing

Yoursquove got to feel a bit sorry for the tourism department of Brunei. The country has a reputation for being very expensive and most tourists only use it for a logisticallyrequired stopover of a day or two when travelling overland between Sarawak and Sabah. I wasnrsquot any different with three days the first and last being days for arriving and departing so just one proper day in the c

Brunei Stopover

Yesterday I boarded a flight from Singapore to Manila with a 7hour stopover in Brunei. I could have easily booked a direct Singapore to Manila flight but as I've never been to Brunei before I decided to give it a try. Anyway the ticket price was higher by only SG100. I figured that since I would be unlikely to book a separate trip to Brunei in the future this was a good method of going there

The smallest yet richest country in Asia Borneo Brunei Darussalam

Day 439 on the road Bandar Seri Begawan is a strange place. It is the capital of the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam by far smallest country in SouthEast Asia which is in turn by far the richest country here due to its abundant oil reserves. In fact the Sulatn of Brunei is one of the richest men in the world. What Bandar as the locals call it lacks completely however is atmosphere. It is d

We caught a boat from the main pier in KK to the busy port Island of Labuan for a short stop before catching the next boat with no AC or outside airflow yuck to Brunei. When we arrived in Brunei we found that there wasn't a money changer or ATM and we needed to catch the bus into town. A Swiss couple who Geoff had previously met at Mt. Kinabalu had already offered and paid for us. Later we

An early start saw us at the ferry terminal to buy tickets for our trip to the island of Labuan which is 8 kilometres off the coast of KK and as it sits at the mouth of Brunei Bay is the route most people take to get to Brunei. It takes 3 hours to reach Labuan and I hated the whole trip. Boats and I don't gel and as my stomach was already queasy I spent the whole trip with my eyes glued to the

Day 289 Tuesday 14th April Arriving in the Sultanrsquos KingdomI make a mental calculation on my journey to Brunei. When I arrive this will be the 16th country I have set foot in during the last 10 months. Crossing the border into Brunei uses probably the best mode of transport Irsquove used yet to do a border crossing....it is by boat. First I catch a ferry from KK to Labuan Island thre

What to give a man with more than 100 luxury cars

We didn't have much luck with transport or bureacracy in Brunei. The ferry from Limbang wasn't running and the taxi drivers wanted ridiculous sums of money at exchange rates that didn't make sense. We eventually made it to the border and were pleased to be finally assigned transit visas a shortterm visa for those moving on in the next few days which costs about half as much as a 30 day visa.

February 14th Okay Wow We woke with less than half an hour before checkin closed. It was straight up and off running first to check in and then through security. By the time we had fully woken up we had taken off. The alarm had gone off but cleverly I had placed it inside a pocket of my bag. It was quite a long flight before we landed in Brunei. For some reason we thought it would only be a c
