It is a world famous wreck a British armed merchant navy ship that was sunk by the German air force in 1941. I went with a group of divers from Dahab we took a bus to Sharm elSheikh at 11pm to sleep on the boat and left early in the morning. The first dive was mostly a swim arou

Somehow it all seems to have taken lots of time though and thatrsquos a pretty typical Kenyan experience.
We arrived at the airport and the transfer to Mombasa was straightforward. The difference in the humidity was astounding as we exited the plane. So moist and the air was damp. We found our guide and I jumped in with a liverpudlian couple. The driver was a real tall athletic looking Kenyan. He was a good man it seemed. A wealth of information about Mombasa and really well informed on the English pr

So I noticed that my last blog entry ended rather abruptly which I'm assuming is something to do with these dam internet cafes where the server goes off every 5 minutes In fairness it was pretty long anyway so I'm sure it doesn't matter...So I've just finished my second week in Kilifi and am in Mombasa again now until I go home. It was so sad saying goodbye to the kids they are all so lovely.

Ahhh... so relaxing All we did for the 4 days spent in Mombasa was hang out by the pool or when it got too hot swim for a little. We also splurged and got a couple of massages by the friendly spa staff. It was just what we needed at the end of a long trip.

So after a hard week at work culminating in some very stressful hand and feet painting on friday I boarded the mutatu to Mombasa to meet up with the guys before our safari saturday morning. Obviously we went for one drink obviously this ended up with me in the casino and finally crashing on the sofa of the volunteer house about an hour before we had to leave Sensible Janiney...But if you are

So saturday night in Mombasa became a Tequila fuelled orientation to Kenyan nightlife... after doing a bit of exploring and finding a school canteen style restaurant which served the most amazing pizza we decided to hit the town. We met Anthony a volunteer who had arrived on wednesday and joined some of the other volunteers who had already been in Mombasa a while for a quick drink... yeah r

So my journey began with the delights of Heathrow Airport. Airports are very lonely places when travelling solo so I was glad to have the whimsical characters of the latest Marian Keyes novel to keep me company. I stopped off at Frankfurt airport to wait for my connection. Screaming for a cigarette but harbouring no delusions that the airport would allow such a filthy habit imagine my surprise w

The airport taxi drops us just as the ramp falls on the Likoni Ferry releasing a flood of passengers streaming up the landing in their hundreds reminiscent of some timeless migratory scene. Only vehicles pay for the short crossing that links the island city of Mombasa to the mainland south which makes monitoring the exact passenger intake a tough call I ponder as we join the herd in replenish

We left Kisumu on the Coast Bus at 5 PM and travelled all night to Mombasa only 1550 KSH and the bus was clean and comfortable with lots of leg room. The seats even recline. The stretch from Kisumu to Nakuru covered some very rough road but the coach's good suspension was good and we relaxed. We weren't prepared for the many stops for police checks at barriers on the road. At one point th
