Well after 3 flights one train journey and one car hire we made it to Torrita di Siena just south of Siena where we are staying. Tuscany is everything you imagine from the films and pictures you see of it.We have been visiting the beautiful fortress towns around this area such as Montepulciano Pienza Montalcino etc. They are stunning walled towns with cobbled streets with shuttered windows

Monday June 2Rome to the Italian Hill TownsWe started Monday morning in Rome. We felt like we had seen all that we could in the limited time we had in Rome three nights. We know that we could return many times and still find plenty to see and enjoy. My original plan had us visiting Orvieto and Siena as we drove north towards Pisa. So as we left Rome we programmed into the GPS the town O

Good Friday in Montelpulciano by Nick and Matt

After our guided tour of Pienza guided by Eugenio's mother we got on the bus and headed to Montepulciano. When we arrived in Montepulciano we stepped out and almost got blown away by the fierce winds that confronted us. After we all got used to leaning into the wind the teachers told us that we had an hour for lunch so we all went our separate ways. Most of the year 9 group stayed near to chiesa

Getting our Green Fix

I think I forgot to mention that we had originally only planned to stay one night in Tuscany. That was until we actually got to Le Pozze di Lecchi. The clincher was that first night by the fireplace. It was cozy romantic quiet and we had the whole place to ourselves. Midway through our 6th hand of Uno Gus got up and booked another night. Another great benefit of traveling offseason your

The hills of Tuscany are very beautiful Sant' Antonio is a beautiful and peaceful spot the views are spectacular no matter where you look. I did my yoga this morning out on the patio watching the sun come up. How much better can it get The pace is much different from Rome in that we have slowed down considerably.
The Beautiful Villages of Montalcino and Montepulciano

We had every intention to get an earlier start today but no luck. It was already 1030a when we packed the car and headed to our first destination. We followed the same route that we took on Thursday but this time drove past Siena down towards Buonconvento. The picturesque Tuscan hills go on and on and on. Montalcino is another village south of Siena and is famous for the Brunello vineyard

How does one top climbing a mountain and having a picnic in the sun Tricky I know. After a bit of discussion over the usual morning coffee we settled on Montepulciano. Two friends of Lynnrsquos called Tina and Wayne were staying at the castle with us so they came along on this adventure. My very important job as we drove over to the town was to find the lunch spot. This is a responsibility t

We departed on our next journey. Destination The famous tuscan vinyards around Montepulciano. This region mostly grows the Sangiovese grape. We actually found one yard which welcomed us for a taste of their wine. We left with one crate in the car and headed on towards the town Montepulciano itself. Due to our generally very ambitious time plan we didn't get to see very much of this tourist floode
