Paul Jim and I drove to Gettysburg to see the new visitor center. It is much larger than the old one and covers US history from before the Civil War until the Civil Rights era. I hope you enjoy the photographs. We did not have time to tour the entire battlefield so we concentrated on the High Water Mark and the Devil's Den. I am always amazed that Pickett's men actually reached the stone wall an

The next stop on the itinerary is Gettysburg the place that played host to the three day battle between the Southern Confederates and the Northern Unionists from July 1st 3rd 1863. The war started solely because southerners wanted to keep their way of life using slaves to work on their farms and plantations. The people up North were in favour of freeing the slaves and using factories and trade

Obfuscator writes We left the place of which we shall not speak as quickly as their decrepit laundry would allow. We drove for a while to get there as the route we had chosen between the great cesspool and Harrisburg was chosen not for speed but for not being a major highway. Harrisburg was much as I remembered it
