Auch als Anfaenger ist man auf den Farmen willkommen. Die Pferde sind alle sehr gut dressiert und so reiten wir

Boulders and the Cape of Good Hope

We went to see the African Penguins at Boulders between Simons Town and Cape Point. The penguins were adorable and the beaches charming. Afterward we went to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. This was incredible. Probably the most beautiful place I've ever seen. The water was sparkling blue. There was a beach in between the two capes. It was down beneath all the mountains and cliffs. The sand

Day 180 4x4 Fun

At 10am we bade farewell to the minibus that had ferried us around for the past week or so and said hello to a couple of 4x4s that we'd rented for the remainder of the holiday. We checked out of Moonglow pretty confident that we'll be back one day. We were driving up to a wilderness reserve called 'Bushmans Kloof' which is about 3 hours north of Cape Town and which is where we are spending New Ye

Day 179 SKYDIVING

Stuart and Nicola had kindly bought us a skydiving experience for Christmas we can say kindly with hindsight so we were pleased to drive up north of Cape Town for about an hour in glorious sunshine and clear skies. Obviously we had little idea of what to expect but after we'd signed a form each Ed was put in a harness and told to head towards a little plane. It took 6 people besides the pilot

Day 178 Buying supplies

A trip to Cape Town wouldn't be complete without taking the cable car up Table Mountain the aptly named backdrop to what must be one of the most breathtaking cityviews around. So this was our first stop. Plans quickly changed though when we saw the length of the queue 2 hours standing in line was never going to happen and since we've been up Table Mountain before we were happy to leave it. So

Day 177 Boxing Day

For some reason a slightly hungover start this morning. We werenrsquot up for anything too strenuous so we headed back to the beach this time choosing the far colder waters of the peninsularsquos Western side. The difference in water temperature really is incredible when you think we were only a few miles from the guesthouse and its bathlike water. Ed took a dip for all of about 5 minutes an

Day 176 Merry Christmas

Yoursquod hardly know it was Christmas day given the sunny weather the only clue that something different was going on was that we all turned down a breakfast fryup in the expectation of something substantial at lunchtime. We werenrsquot disappointed and the 7course meal with a bottle and a half of wine each was the dayrsquos highlight. And the best bit was that Stuart paid for the wh

Day 175 Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve and more importantly to us at least our halfyear wedding anniversary. Taking to his new husband role Ed had to pop out for some last minute Christmas shopping. Once the chores were out of the way we hit the beach with a borrowed umbrella mat and beach towels and Stuartrsquos new purchases of a football and Frisbee. Not much point scribing a day at the beach in our blog but obv

After yesterdayrsquos day of doing pretty much nothing except catching up with each otherrsquos news today was far more actionpacked. We took our lsquobusrsquo into Simonstown the last town of any significance south of Cape Town and had a bit of a wander. This is a fairly touristy place based around a naval heritage. The Time Out magazine reviews a seaside restaurant here and says lsq

Gemmarsquos brother Stuart and his girlfriend Nicola arrived in Cape Town at about 10am. Their flight was a bit late due to fog in London which just added to our smugness as we prepared ourselves for another 30C day. Gren and Sally went to pick them up and Gemma went with them Ed stayed in bed. It was great to have the CarrJones family all together again and there was a lot of catching up to
