They had a Christmas Tree Lighting in our Honor

We got into Belfast around 1600 relaxed a little and made some plans. We were to meet our Canadian friends from Galway and look for a place selling shepherds pie and Guinness. We remembered as we neared downtown that it was the night of the Christmas Lighting Ceremony. There were loads of people and a stage where they had various performers including a couple from Xfactor some kind of

Here are all my Belfast mural pictures. Again i encourage all to read up on Belfast. I have a few tales to share when i return home from some of the Irish men i met who lived through it all.

This is a side story from ldquo4 Days and 3 Nights around Irelandrdquo which will be published shortly. For those of you who know me which again is most of you I do not do well with fear. I have always had an incredibly vivid imagination so when Irsquom put into a situation that looks remotely spooky or even worse Irsquom shown something horrifying I will be in nightmare land for days

Light Dark and in between

The sun was elusive today as it has been for most of our time here. It appears when your not expecting and stays briefly all the while shifting and changing from behind the clouds and then slowly fades. Today we left Robins house and traveled from Porstewart to Derry along the coast taking scenic routes when possible. We started by walking along the promenade watching the sea and wind slam again

Whiskey waves and Cliffside Walks

Today we headed back along the coast to places we did not get to see because it was to dark. The first sight we saw were the ruins of Dunluce Castle. We decided we did not want to go inside because we had already seen a castle but took a nice walk to the bottom of the castle. At this point you could still see the inside of the castle ruins and a bridge that crosses into the remaining part of the

A castle the coast and driving on the left...

Today we rented a car eventually and drove up from Belfast to Portstewart along the north coast. We traveled along the coast the entire way mostly on the A2 but also along the Torr road. It was a beautiful drive the rolling green hills and coastal rock cliffs. We stopped shortly out of Belfast to look at the Carrickfergus Castle which was started in 1178. It's hard to come to grasp with the

The Murals of Belfast

Time for a bit of history. Lonely Planet suggested that if you only have a day in Belfast you eat at Maggie Mayrsquos best suggestion ever and you see the murals. We drove around and tried to find as many as we could. Many of the murals were political and especially moving. Being that I have only learned little bits of the Northern Ireland ldquoTroublesrdquo as they call it I decide

Understanding Northern Ireland

BelfastI arrived in Belfast just after lunch excited to learn about the history of Northern Ireland and thought Belfast would be just the place to gain that knowledge. And I was right. I went on a 1.5 hour walking tour that discussed the 330 years of Belfast viewing the Victorian architectural sights of City Hall and the leaning tower that is the Albert Memorial Clock. A fairly boring tour unles
