West CoastNovember 27 2008We had a late start out of Wanaka. It was just so pretty and quiet in our caravan park that we took our sweet time getting showers having breakfast washing dishes and putting the jigsaw puzzle van back to its daytime configuration.
Wednesday 8th OctoberIt rained heavily from about 0400 and both of us had a fitful night. On our way and first stop was just up the road Fox Glacier. A short walk got us to the observation area but when we saw others in the distance near the foot of the glacier we ducked under the marker tape and moved quickly along a rockfall area keeping our eyes peeled. On our return this section was open so

We'd noticed that there was also a road to a glacier viewpoint so we drove up there. From the end of the road there are a few walks you can do so we walked down to the viewpoint for a great view of the glacier snaking it's way down the valley from it's large snow collect

We stopped in Haarst for petrol and pies before continuing on towards Fox Glacier where we headed towards a lookout point. The view was dissapointing as we could only see a small part of the glacier through a clearing in the rainforest. Feeling fit Mark and Dale replaced their standard attire f

Our last morning in Queenstown started at 6am. It was another manic one as if I remember rightly we had to leave at 730am. This meant the three of us all had to have our showers have breakfast and make sure we had nothing left in our rooms. Itrsquos surprising how long it takes to pack a bag sometimes.Anyway we all made it out on time. Nick had got us a new coach this morning and he was

well we had some money left and decided to go by helicopter onto Fox's glacier. It takes you right high up onto the ice where it is so quiet. I thought we'd just wander around but no we must climb through ice caves and walk along the side of a crevasse. It is not something I want to do again much too slippery for me. I was quite relieved that we had to be airlifted out early because the wea
