Two day off in Antigua are well spent drinking with the locals to celebrate Independence Day. Did you know.... Guatemala Nicaragua Honduras and Panama all share the same Independence Day 15 September 1821. This was only from the Spanish though they then had to get independent from the Mexicans as well. We sampled the local delight of Aguadiente picture on the Globebusters blog with new C

They say you learn about yourself when you travel. One of the things Irsquove learned or resigned myself too is the fact that I donrsquot sleep well or at all on buses and planes. Unless Irsquom lying down my body just wonrsquot sleep. Tipping the seat back a degree or two isnrsquot enough to fool the old bones into thinking itrsquos time for a nap. If I do nod off momentarily

After a quick wash I dressed and we headed down to wait for the bus. Sooooo sleepy and as usual being on the mini bus was like being on a rollercoaster but I did manage

Bad news for ruin buffs and good news for those a bit 'ruinedout' Copan is the southernmost city of the Mayan empire. A colony has been here for 3000 years but the founder of the famous city arrived in AD 426 a powerful shaman named Great Sunlord Quetzal Macaw. Copan grew in strength through jade trade and military power but the empire mysteriously collapsed around 900 AD. One of the most

Friday February 13The San Pedro Sula sun beat down on us in the tiny airport parking lot. Along with the gorgeous green mountains it was the heat that made me smile to myself and say April you're not in Michigan anymoreWithin an hour or so of landing I was in the bus station buying a ticket to Copan on the Casasola and counting down the minutes until I'd arrive in the town that I called

We had a lazy morning and our shuttle arrived at 1pm for a 5 hr trip to copan honduras.
We boarded a Hedman Alas bus at 500am for the five hour trip to Copan. These buses are luxury buses with different classes of service on board. Executive Class Plus is the most expensive class and has the most comfortable seats. They are more comfortable than those on a train or plane including first class. They recline almost horizontal so that it is very easy to catch up on the sleep that one

Our shuttle from Antigua to Copan Ruins felt like it took forever Was hot and early but hard to sleep cos was a mini van so no head rests to rest our sleepy heads on All the luggage was put on top of the van and part way along the journey the driver slammed on his breaks and suddenly jumped out of the van and started running back along the road. It certainly woke us up and we turned round t
