Island Hopping

Hello Boys and Girls Camille and I went up to the northwest coast of Scotland last week. We went to a town called Oban. It is on the water. We took a ferry across the water to the Island Of Mull. A ferry is a large boat that can transport people and their cars across the water. There was a restaurant and even a gift shop on the ferry Camille and I liked going to the top deck and looking out at

The hotel's been under renovations for the past little while and that's always a blast with a 400 yo building Ceilings falling in windows leaking etc lotsa good fun. The amount of tourists on the island is on steady increase and Easter weekend is setting up to be a mob We've got 4 new people coming the end of this w

Well the forest rally has come and gone... seemed to be quite a good weekend. Although Dave and I didn't get to see much of it since we were working the whole time... kind of a trend starting I think. We haven't been that busy this month a wee bit boring actually. And work is a bit unsure at the moment since it seems the staff are all about to cut and run. We both really like Nick and Debbie so

Hi All Just a note to say we made it through the holidays away from home. We definately missed spending it with friends and family but also enjoyed the differences. The dance was great it was just too bad it wasn't on all night. Just when I was getting up the nerve to try a traditional scottish dance last song of the night came over the mic Shoot oh well next time I'll try to learn same ste

Just a little holiday note from Dave and I Everything is going well here the weather is still quite wet. Unusually wet we've been told even for Mull. But we managed a great walk yesterday without getting soaked. There's a dirt trail that you can almost drive on the goes up the coast to Quinish Point. It's an amazing walk which I'm sure we'll do often. There will be pics coming of a beautiful r

It is very beautiful here hard to compare with Waterton but the awe is the same. I don't think I'll ever get tired of the scenary. We are both very very happy definately enjoying ourselves.
After a few days in Glasgow we boarded a train to the port town of Oban on the west coast and took a ferry to the Isle of Mull where we began our first WWOOFing experience. WWOOF Willing Workers On Organic Farms is a worldwide organization placing volunteers on organic farms of all varieties. This farm was located on the far west end of Mull an hours bus ride from the ferry. Mull is beautif

Godrsquos Country is a Scottish name for all of the Highlands but our destination today particularly deserves this designation. The island of Iona is the most beautiful place Irsquove ever been and it also has a thriving religious community. Itrsquos one of those wonderful unspoiled places that you read about in fairy tales and wish still existed. From Obanrsquos harbour we took a

Day 7

Ouch Today was hard work. A strong north westerly wind right in our faces made cycling very difficult especially as we had 4 or 5 big climbs to traverse. We left Ben and Silvy's at 8.15 am and arrived in Tarbert which is just north of Arran at about 8.30pm. Part of the reason the day was so long was because we had two ferry journeys one onto Arran and one off. The scenery around here is spect

Weather ReportWindy showers and that was the best of it. Incredibly strong gusts at times with some tents suffering damage. Not mine so far Could make little sense of various weather forecasts but decided that the uncertainty of that plus sitting in the tent spending money suggest a need to bring the expedition to an end. Have booked flight Glasgow to Stansted for Tuesday afternoon.	In the la

Generally adequate for the purpose From midafternoon incredibly heavy showers increasing in frequency. That seems to be the forecast for the coming week not good.Set off with bike hired from campsite at about 8.15am. Drove sedately north along the road that follows the east coast of Mull. Currently the crew is staying in an enormous mansion known as Ardtornish House. The estate is on 1500 acres of land and there are like 25 rooms in the house not to mention about five kitchens.
We set off from North Queensferry Sunday morning with the intended destination of Arran. It didn't quite work out that way however. As it turned out the rail line we were to take is not covered by our Scotrail passes so we opted to go north toward Oban availing ourselves of the oportunity to ride through the Trossachs. It was a long ride but spectacular. There is still a lot of snow on th
