Mark Posting please note that many of the pictures do not correspond to the blog most are from a walk we took yesterdayI need to write something so that Liz does not completely hijack the blog. Unfortunately this will be the third entry in three days so the amount of untold material is limited. Therefore it is perfect timing to fulfill a promise I made a while back to convey our national l

Mark PostingLast night I considered multitasking by writing a blog while watching the Patriots play the Colts on Sunday night football. I'm thankful I decided to focus on the game though as I fear my computer would have endured an abrupt meeting with the wall. Even though I'm typically not as vocal as say my older brother it took quite a bit of restraint to remain on my best behavior while w

Liz postingAfter arriving in the Jackson area actually just south of Hoback Junction we are finally settled in. The hard windy drive from Colorado to Jackson was not that fun but arriving to my aunt's house with glasses of wine and beer nearly poured for us was. Saturday was a really long full day. We started by going to the Jackson Hole Ski Club's annual fundraiser the Ski Swap. The

Liz postingIt looks cold outside. Even though my weather bug tells me its only 33.8 with no wind it still looks cold outside. We live in a narrow valley in between what I would consider two foothills of the Wyoming mountain range. We woke up with a light dusting of snow on the hills and I can see the tall pine trees swaying forty feet up. The house overlooks the Hoback river and even thoug

Mark PostingThe last couple posts have been exhaustive recounts of every little thing that Liz and I have done. I can guarantee another one of those will be available to all you eager readers soon enough. However tonight I am going to save my fingertips and simply upload a bunch of photos that we've taken over the past several days which have not yet made their way onto the blog.
In May 2008 I visited Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks for the first time. On the way Mom and I drove through BridgerTeton National Forest just south and east of Jackson on US 189 and US 191. The clouds the light rain and the beautiful hills made for a wonderful drive.

Yes somehow we managed to tick off Montana 'Big Sky Country' and Wyoming 'Like No Place On Earth' in just 5 days not enough time to do them justice really. You can guess what's coming next yes more long windy road with sweeping bends and spectacular views. Although I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear that our first day in the USA was a total wash out and we got soaked to the skin. We

We had 26 miles of dirt road construction to get out of Yellowstone Colter Bay was surrounded by the Tetonrsquos. It was a magical spiritual experience.Beginning 10 million years ago movement on the Teton fault caused massive earthquakes pushing the mountains up and dropping the valley floorvertical displacement

It rained heavily through the night in Riverton and by morning the front was through and the temp 42 degrees. Brrrrr We left under very cloudy skies and were surprised to see snow on the distant mountains. We headed east on US 2026 towards Casper which would be a lunch stop and then on towards Laramie our stop for the night. The route was once again to be the most scenic available.
Today is Sunday. The weather did change and is now cooler and very overcast. A cool front was predicted to arrive sometime later in the day so the weather was changeable. We met Chuck and Joanne about 1030am and headed out again for the day. Chuck was driving so Frank was able to sit back and be a passenger and enjoy the sites. We started with Castle Gardens today. The name of the area com

Sure we shot some of the same views of yesterday but the cloud blooms were magnificent today.
We headed north again to Riverton to visit with Frank's long time friends. The drive took us about 3 hours. The only two rest stops with bathrooms on that 3 hour trip through the desert were closed for renovation. I thought that was rather a cruel thing to do to people of our age. Our bladders are not as young as they used to be. Riverton is a city in Fremont County Wyoming. It is both th

I dressed took my camera gear to The Beast and throttled up in order to be in the field at first light. I imagine there were low growls from under many covers in the campground when the diesel engine fired up with its own cacophonous growl. There was already a crowd of veh

On Monday the 14th we got up to find a buffalo in our campground at Custer. I guess the rangers call him Fred. Some nice neighbors volunteered to take our picture if we wanted to stand by him I declined that offerToday we went to see Mt. Rushmore. Just the drive there from Custer State Park on 16 is an experience. There were 3 tunnels the end of each framed Mt Rushmore. There was a spiral o

Flaming Gorge

We started out today from Green River on Route 530 and were immediately in wide open desert with nothing but sagebrush and mountains on the distant horizon. There was not one single tree for miles. The temp was 55 when we left the hotel and rose to 62 about 12 hr out into the desert. It would later rise as high as 82 which is evidently about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Alt

There were bumps humps gravel dirt and such than could be counted. But none of it yesterday could compare to the mother of constructions zones we passed through today Poor Uncle Joe The Beast dragged him through the muck for miles and m
