The people we spoke to on the South Island were unanimous in their view that the North Island was there but it wasnrsquot really up to much. One lady told us that really the best plan was to get off the ferry in Wellington and go straight to the Bay of Islands probably trying to ignore Auckland as you go through I suspect. Even then so we were told the Bay of Islands is really just full of A

The road to Waitangi Sunday 23rd November 2008On Friday morning we collected our Toyota campervan and set off north towards the Bay of Islands and Waitangi. The camper isnrsquot as new as we had hoped. In fact it is pretty wellworn and hasnrsquot been wellcared for. A lot of backpackers hire campers in New Zealand so they get thrashed about a bit. At 10.00 we got on a Mini bus for a town tour. We learned the story of Kororareka. The legend goes that a Maori chief wounded in battle asked for some penguin broth.

Unfortunately I was a total idiot and forgot my camera. There were sheep and lambs all up the hill and the tall grasses were waving in the wind.
