Leaving Mcleod Ganj for Jodhpur 1921 November 2009

Our last couple of days in Mcleod Ganj were lovely despite Deb and Hero being riddled with fear and anxiety about rabies worries that have continued to plague our enjoyment of the trip but that will hopefully subside now that Deb has had her final injection. We hung around town and also had a lovely dinner with some newfound friends but mostly we just went a little crazy in the shops and marke

So after I logged off from the internet yesterday my guide invited me to his home for tea. In India it is common for the family extended to all live together. He lives with his parents his wife and 2 children and his brother's family. They have a few extra rooms so his father has been converting them to guest rooms to rent out. We had some chai and visited a bit more. He was going to sho

The following writing is another extract from some of the work in my book. I thought I'd post it up as it describes one of the notsogood times I had while travelling. I sometimes found it difficult to admit to having bad days and succumbing to loneliness and other difficult emotions but it's part of my travel tapestry and I hope some people who read it might resonate with the feeling behind

Today was pretty much just a transit day. There was still no hot water at the hotel. I really should have asked about it but didn't want to seem like the spoiled american I am.There was another long and at times bonejarring drive to Jaipur. The driver had Indian music on and it was fun to listen do while we drove. I'm now at the Shahpura House in Jaipur. It is a lovely place and best of al

I am a totally spoiled americanWe had cookies and coffee while waiting for the jeep to arrive. Sorry Tyler it wasn't red it was a green jeep. It started to drizzle a bit while we were climbing into the jeep. There was no roof on it and I had no waterproof clothing.

Pushkar a small city in western Rajasthan was created when Lord Brahma one of the Hindu gods the creator actually dropped a lotus flower from his hand to the earth and at the spots where three of the petals landed water appeared in the otherwise dry desert area to from three blue lakes according to the Hindu history. I found out it is the beginning of the typical tourist route of Rajistan which includes Jaipur Pushkar Udaipur and Jodhpur. I hit 3 of the four places....damn I am a tourist As I said I started out in Jaipur which was and interesting ride from Agra. I got on the bus and we barreled dow

Walking in the labyrinth of narrow streets in the quaint old town of Pushkar could in theory be a fascinating experience given the nice old buildings temples shops the friendly and colorfully dressed local people. However there are a few things in the streets that make walking there a bit frustrating and even hazardous. For a start there are the persistent touts really annoying shopkeepers c

Hi EveryoneI spent the last week in Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan India. Jaipur is home to the Amber fort and the Pink City. The Pink City gets its name from its pink city walls but don't let the locals hear you call it that or they will laugh at you. Apparently to them it is the 'Old City.' While I was in Jaipur a met a group of girls who showed me around their college and took me to the

This was particularly annoying because the lake is lovingly described in the latest Lonely Planet Guide and furthermore we had paid premium rate for a hotel with a lake vie

We passed marketstalls and small shops all of which promised much and we vowed to return later for shopping. The Palace of the Winds is pink and has nearly 100 windows in it. We also saw where the City Palace gates were and after consulting th
