After 9095 degree in the Whitsundays we were in for a surprise when we landed in Tasmania. Wearing shorts tanks and flipflops we were met in Launceston by 60 degree temperatures Launceston is in Northern Tasmania about 3 hours north of Hobart the biggest city. We arrived late to Tasmania and after 5 nights on a boat we were all excited to have a good night sleep in a stationary bed

Luckily we had already booked a camp site at the Discovery Holiday Parks camp ground which is the only camp ground at the Cradle Valley end of the park. The rest are more upmarket cabins and chteaus etc. The park was full but the camp sites were nice and secluded so we weren't jammed in like a normal caravan park although we only just squeezed the camper trailer into our allotted site with

How much fun is a road trip Yes this is a rhetorical question. Carissa and I have just spent the last week making our way over land and water to the great south land TASSIE. Having made our way down to Melbourne in plenty of time we decided to venture a little further south to check out the Mornington Peninsula. We made our way via Mornington around the bay to Sorrento where we biked our w

It was only in the last month that we booked the flights for Tasmania on the recommendation that we couldn't come this far not go to Tasmania. Thankfully we had the time. We arrived early on the Sunday morning left on the Thursday so we didn't have time to be lounging about. We rented ourselves a small car to get us around.....Mellow Yellow was the car. It was so cool having our own whee

We started on the 24th and arrived in Devonport. A nice little city you can walk around in about 20 minutes. We needed to buy fuel for the stove and there is this Snowgum shop right in the city centre where we enquired. They did not have any Shellite but we were directed to the local supermarket. Snowgum also rents out gear for people who might want to rent it rather than invest in it. Suitably

Getting to Cradle Mountain was trickier than we thought and involved us getting a wee bit creative. We took a Tassie Link bus to Launceston which is the other major city in Tasmania and lies at the other end of the island. We checked into the hostel in Launceston and headed downtown. Unfortunately it was dusk and pretty much everything had closed.Tasmania is a beautiful place but is seriously limi

Headed even further down under to Tasmania for a weekend of more walking than I ever imagined. On our first full day we walked around Dove Lake which is at the bottom of Cradle Mountain. It rained off and on all day but when it stopped gorgeous rainbows stretched out across the water making the downpours worth it. Around lunch time the rain had let up so our guide suggested we stray from the pat

Today only one hike was on the program but what an hike. We would go by bus to the Cradle Mountain were several unguided hikes were possible. From a simple 2 hour stroll around the Dove Lake to a full 68 hour hike to the top of Cradle Mountain. There are several ways to get to the top. Most if not all of our group decided to start with a relative easy start around a beautiful landscape with
