We drove in to Tzintzuntzan first to see the remains of the Purepecha pyramids known as the ycatas. They are certainly not kept up in good repair for visitors and are are slowly crumbling within the confines of the wire fence surrounding them. They are all different shapes around ovals rectangles and Tshaped and were part of what used to be the ancient capitol city of of the area which

After a lovely morning in Morelia we headed to Ptzcuaro planning to have lunch and walk around. Ptzcuaro is a city that fills up with many Mexican tourists on the weekends looking to get away from the busy cities and enjoy their time in a smaller very pretty town. There are many boutique hotels and resorts here and it is certainly a nice place to visit. Ptzcuaro is a Purepecha indian na

I caught a taxi to the bus station early this morning because I knew it would be a long day of travel. Yesterday I booked a room in a small ranch hotel that was suggested to me as a relaxing place by a friend who stayed their with his family. It was my first successful business phone call in Spanish I found out that I would need to take 2 buses to get to the ranch on the outskirts of the city

I found out from the taxi driver that the main street where I wanted to go was closed but I didn't know why. It was apparent when I got there there was a huge festival People crowded everywhere and police were directing traffic while many drivers complained ab

On January 5th and 6th we visited Uruapan a town 2h away from Morelia. On the first day we visited a national park which had trails following the Rio Cardenas through lush forest. It was quite touristy. At the top of one of the trails was the Devils Knee. The story behind this spot is that the devil used to live in a cave at the head of the river stopping the water from getting through.
