Our First Vacation Bodega Bay

Our First VacationMy boyfriend worked 1214 hours a day for over 30 days to finish writing a book. I desperately wanted a long weekend to spend together relaxing. We discovered Sonoma Coast Villa and Spa which is a boutique inn owned by a Swiss couple with luxurious accommodations including oversized whirlpool jetted tubs cedar wood burning fireplaces in each room and spa treatments.
Sept. 4 Thursday Cliff Cottage Bodega Bay CA. My aunt and uncle Patsy and Ed McKeown treated us to a wonderful overnight in SF well Piedmont across the bay and in the middle of Oakland. Patsy is my motherrsquos remaining sister and therefore particularly dear to me. But both of these folks in their 80rsquos are sharp as tacks Ed is particularly great with maps and made sure we had

Driving the Coast

6272008 We stayed the night in Bodega Bay a charming seaside town In the morning we headed up the coast to Fort Bragg. The coast was very beautiful Most of the beaches you couldn't even get to because they were lined by cliffs. The campground we stayed at was on the beach. It was foggy and cold but Sarah my cousin Clay and I still braved the ocean It was freezing but worth it.KATIE

Wersquove popped into the Sandpiper Restaurant for lunch and I just powered up the computer to write this entry our plan was to continue walking to the Tides after lunch another halfhour or so from here to get online. And holy cow Therersquos free wifi RIGHT HERE Wersquore crapping our pants over this because we could have been using it all this ti

June 25The winds have quieted.

Today the wind gauge reads a big fat 0.0. We couldn't believe it when we woke up and we could hear the buoy out in the harbor for the first time. Up until now the roar of the wind has drowned out its honk. The fishermen here at the dock are nonchalant about the calm winds even as Harry and I start running through our minds all the things we need to do before we throw off the lines. Oh it'll

June 24Sitting around Bodega Bay

Wersquove had no shortage of drama here in the marina as you can see from Harryrsquos earlier note about the dingaling in the dinghy. The wind level alone is enough to raise my blood pressure. Wersquore idle and itrsquos hard for both of us to do nothing. Small things become a big deal I baked chocolate chip cookies yesterday and we took a compatibility quiz in the Oprah magazine. N

June 23Another Coast Guard call

Called the Coast Guard again. It was Saturday evening and the gale was still blowing. We were tied up snug to our dock riding it out waiting for a weather window to open up so we could continue north. The masthead was reading gusts in the upper thirties with sustained winds in the high twenties. I was working my way through the NY Times crossword puzzle when I heard shouting. Lots of shouting

June 23Bodega Bay

Last night the winds howled through the marina and this morning the report on the marina office called for Gail winds today. So we're still here. We hiked around the bay from the marina into what might be town. A few shops here and there mostly catering to divers and people who like salt water taffy what is it with salt water taffy and beachside dives. According to a nice guy walking his do

We climbed 147 steps to a view of sea and coastline which is treacherous. This lighthouse and the area around was obliterated by the 1906 earthquake. As we drive the coastal highway 1 with itrsquos hairpin turns and steep drops into the Pacific I am not going to th
