Robbery

Vilanculos might be worth visiting a couple of days. Be ware of thieves though. Robbery has increased and still is. Don't stay at Dolphin DowsI was assaulted by 4 guys who stole my handbag upon arrival. Junior the owner of Dolphin Dhows seemed at first very helpful and competent. He somehow got my bag back. Empty. He accompanied me to the Police. He knows both the Police and the thieves ver

Mozambique

Hello Everyone It's been a while since our last entry. Sorry no pictures right now the computer here won't let Aaron download any photos. We've been kicking back on the beach in Mozambique. Our friend Martina owns a Nissan repair shop in Vilankulos and we stayed with her for almost a month. She is so much fun we had a great time. It was really nice to just be in one spot for a while also.

Update

As you have probably noticed with the scarcity of my updates... internet is not very available in the heart of Africa. I've been on an overland trip through Botswana Zambia Malawi and am now in Mozambique. The trip has been amazing so far and apparently great things to come in the last 5 days. I've seen elephants charging I've dodged crocs and hippos fallen down the falls... We are only 6 in o

Marvelous magical Mozambique

Mozambique was an absolute blast as expected. Our trip had three purposes firstly to relax a bit secondly to serve as a week of saying farewell to our friends and family and lastly as a place to do our commitment ceremony. Unfortunately as a result of logistics and circumstances we could not get everyone that we wanted to be present to be there. There was a shortage of space and flights. We had

Tale of Two Journeys

Escape from TofoYes I finally left Tofo though it was tough and not 100 of my own accord. I was aided by the kindness of very nice stranger. But even that took some effort. It required much debate between Helen and myself over breakfast should we change hostels in Tofo go to Vilankulo or do nothing. In the end we decided to mission to Vilankulo. I think this decision was aided by the intense

Surviving the storm

Mozambique has had a tough time of it lately in spite of the enormous strides made by her people towards a peaceful society since the civil war ended nearly fifteen years ago. Leaving aside the serious floods in the year 2000 the last few months alone has seen a munitions factory on the outskirts of Maputo go up in flames and subsequently turn the city into a mini war zone then a category five

Used dhow shopping

On only a few occasions so far had we felt the need to increase our security measures. Port Elizabeth Durban Maseru and Maputo were all places that we were on higher alert but in fairness to both Maseru and Maputo we were able to relax a little after settling in quickly to the feel of the place. Yet again through the backpacker grapevine we'd been warned that our next stop Vilankulo was a ho
