Castle Facination

It was a perfect fall weather for hiking although the hike to Neuschwanstein was steep not easy. After climbing the hills the ultimate fairytale castle stood there welcoming our arrival. Wow was the word I used when I saw the castle. This is where a fantasy did come true. The romantic castle was build by King Ludwig II from 18691886. The construction stopped with the king's death and it w

Friday 3rd OctoberWith damp jeans hung up all over the beds and hung up in the shower we set off for King Ludwig IIrsquos most famous and photographed castle Schloss Neuschwanstein. It was raining when we left the camping ground and it was still raining when we arrived at the gorgeous town of Fussen and boy was it packed with tourist When I asked about the million tourists the lady smiled

Neuschwanstein

We stopped at a Bckerei bakery and a Metzgerei butcher for lunch fixins before we left town. The 2hour drive into the Alps was beautiful of course. One interesting thing about Bavaria is the farms all seem to be small family operations and it's common to see actual farmers actually farming as we drive by.Neuschwanstein is Neuschwanstein. What more need be said We had to wait three hours

What a Fun DayWe got up at 600am to have an early breakfast and to fight the commuter traffic in Munich to get to Neuschwanstein Castle by 945am to check in for our tour. Charlene had purchased combo reservations back home for us to see this Castle as well as the Hohenschwangau Palace. The location is about 1 hour 45 minutes southwest of our hotel in Munich and the the rain was pretty hea

Day 58 Neuschwanstein Germany

Today we woke up at 8 to get ready for our tour. The tour started at the train station at 930. We were going to see another castle that King Ludwig II had started building but died before he could finish. It was the castle that was the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle. We met at the train station and took a two hour relaxing train ride followed by a 10 minute bus ride. When we

In true KarenAngel fashion we waited around Platform 27 for the train taking us to Neuschwanstein Castle only to discover we were supposed to be at Platform 32. But we eventually made it to the idyllic town of Fussen and then to the Castle. The Castle is the model for the Cinderella castle at Disney world. It was built by this crazy King Ludwig II and is the inspiration for most of Wagner's

There are some things in life that aren't quite all they're cracked up to be like Cinderella's Castle at Disneyland or the Big Goose Pagoda in Xi'an. But to make up for those disappointments every so often a real gem of an attraction that comes along and makes it all seem worth the effort again.
