Today we drove into the town of Killarney. Yesterday we drove the Ring of Kerry. We ventured off the main path and found some old castles and stone forts that had ben mentioned in a book we had. It was well worth it. We had each place to ourselves and didn't have to deal with any tour buses. We found a pull out spot along the road with an overlook of some cliffs and the beach to set up camp

Well we have made to the town of Tralee which is southwest of Limerick. We spent two nights in the town of Doolin. We rented bikes...again... and rode up to the cliffs of moher. The man explained 40 minutes up and less than 20 down. Man was he right. The views were amazing. In our Morrison fashion we needed a little more than the views that could be reached by tour bus. We enquired at th

Thursday 3 SeptemberThis morning we were excited to go on the Ring Of Kerry excursion. We were lucky that the rain looked like it was stopping Perfect timing. We drove off on some very narrow and dangerous roads. At one time there was a near accident when some idiot overtook us nearly hitting oncoming traffic. The coach driver rang his licence plate into the police. The views were finally what

Presently we're in Killarney Ireland. We've been on the road for a fair piece now. Internet connections are not always as handy as we would like and are often more expensive than we like. So we haven't been contributing to this blog as frequently as we had expected to.We're both well and enjoying ourselves and hope to make more frequent posts to this blog from now on.
Ballybunion was once a very popular seaside resort with Irish families until the late 1960's. Thousands were attracted to its sandy beaches its busy main street filled with pubs for the adults and fun parlours for the kids. However when cheap package holidays to Mediterranean resorts became trendy the Irish holiday became less attractive. Better weather more interesting food and a sophisticat

Today I left Killarney but on the way out stopped off to have a look at Ross Castle and St Margarets Cathedral. St Margarets is huge and I was allowed to just wander in. The door seems to be always open. It was very peaceful.Headed out through Killorglin Milltown Castlemaine Inch and arrived at Dingle. Dingle is very nice. Went to another milltown which plays havoc with the GPS as aft

Had a wonderful sleep and even better breakfast. This morning I ordered the traditional Irish breakfast. The black pudding was excellent. Left Rivermount House at 9am and headed along the coast stopping at each town along the way.I avoided the beara peninsula and made it to Kenmare which is just south of the Ring of Kerry. This is about a 180km loop around the Iveragh Peninsula. I ascended

We recently returned from a two week family holiday in beautiful green Ireland. We enjoyed it all. One of our favorite places that we plan on returning to someday is Loch Lein Country Home in Fossa County Kerry just outside of Killarney. This is a four star hotel. The views are stunning. The service is the best and the food and accomodations are outstanding. The rooms are large and plush. P
