Day 310 Move onto Eighty Mile Beach

We woke to a very windy morning and everything outside the van was covered in red dirt. We packed up and shook as much of the dirt we could before putting things back in the van. We slowly drove out to the main road and then headed a little further down the Great Northern Hwy towards Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park 45. We stopped at Sandfire Roadhouse to fill up with diesel it was so hot The r

Day 309 Barn Hill

We decided to stay another night at Barn Hill and do a little bit of school work with the kids and then take them down to the beach for a swim. Guy and I also did some fishing but caught nothing. We could see something floating in the water and heading for shore so we went for a long walk to find out what it was. It was a large buoy which Bryce decided to pull back up to the main part of the beach

Eighty Mile Beach 11 July

We made the dash from Middle Lagoon to Port Smith after a brief fuel and food stop in Broome. Port Smith is at the northeastern end of Eighty Mile Beach and because we were only planning to stay there one night we had prebooked an onsite cabin. The next day we drove onto the beach near Eighty Mile Beach caravan park where lots of shells were collected.

Greetings to you all from a warm steamy Tropical Queensland. As you'll probably gathered from the fact that we're now in Queensland we've done a bit of travelling since our last blog. Our 8 days in Broome were wonderful clear skies 33 degrees every day and nothing better to do than lie on Cable Beach soaking up the sun and contemplating when the waves would be at their best for a bit of boardin

80 Mile Beach Sunday 25th May Tuesday 27th May

As we pulled into 80 Mile Beach Caravan Park I felt quite sceptical. It looked very red and dusty. It turned out to be a great place with friendly staff and a peaceful atmosphere with no driving between 7pm and 7am permitted. Some residents live there permanently and they even have Sunday morning markets. It was amazing to have power and water in the middle of nowhere. We were keen to check out

Barn Hill and Eighty Mile Beach for those that need a translation this is Grey Nomad country Barn Hill is a station stay accommodation on the beach about 150ks south of Broome. You travel 10km off the main road and hit the station then keep driving for a few hundred metres to the camp ground. We thought it would be a nice quiet place to spend a few days and try out the new beaut fishing ge

80 mile beach

Off the main road gave us a new expression when we started to drive towards the camp site. Dust roads have a new meaning in this place. I think they are really best described as dry dust about 4 meters wide with vegetation either side and they call this a road We found the camp site and walked to the beach a whole 30 seconds We weren't expecting much it was just the most convenient camps
