Cody in Cody

So I have given up hope that we will actually get the blog caught up with where we currently are. After leaving the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone on Wed. Sept. 3rd we took Highway 296 up into Montana for a bit and then south to 120 Chief Joseph Scenic Highway into Cody Wyoming. We arrived around 9pm and immediately searched for a campsite. Not knowing the area we took the first one we cou

Today was our day to do nothing which we all desperately needed Amy went to the pool and read a book Rachel and Emma layed in the camper and watched t.v. all day and Shawn went shopping for a knife and a new truck. He got the knife and instead of a new truck got the oil changed and the truck washed much cheaper. It was a nice relaxing day. I had an it's a small world moment at the camp

We had a very weird drive. We started in rolling hills went up a mountain pass went along a mountain meadow like SOund of Music and then descended into a very arid environment. Went for a little swim too.

Traveling again

We departed Devil's Tower on June 11 2008 heading for Cody Wyoming. We spent the night in Buffalo Wyoming and got underway the next morning. There were two routes we could take from Buffalo to Cody but were told one of them was a safer and easier drive than the other one. As it turned out I am glad we took the safer drive because we would not have wanted to experience the other route if th

Having a blast in Wyoming

Greetings from Cody Wyoming Wersquove made a quick stop at one of Tonyrsquos friends named Ken nestled into the Bear Tooth Mountains. To the west is Yellowstone National Park and to the southwest are the Teton Mountains. The Tetons are only 100 miles away but it would take you 6 hours to drive there. Many animals inhabit the area including bobcats gold eagles rattle snakes bull snakes

Red Lodge Montana to Cody Wyoming

Not far out of Red Lodge you are quickly on The Beartooth Scenic Highway which is without doubt very scenic. It reminds David of Trollstigen near Andalsnes in Norway apart from the Fjords that is.The roadrsquos a bit pock marked at high altitude but thatrsquos a relatively minor quibble. We go over the top across the plateau over the Beartooth Pass through Coulter Pass and Cooke City a

Cody

The drive to Cody was quite eventful. We had to drive through a canyon to get there...think of being on a roller coaster without being buckled in I was sooo scared the ENTIRE time. The rational part of me knew we were totally safe the irrational part of me wanted to crawl on the floor of the car until we were through the canyonWe decided to spend the night in Cody WY which was 54 miles from

Leaving South Dakota Arriving in Beautiful Wyoming

We left Custer State Park taking the Needles Scenic Highway Drive again this time north. We drove up to Lead where we saw an open pit mine in the middle of the town. We drove through Deadwood which has a restored western town main street. Wild Bill Hickok was killed here in a saloon while playing poker. He is buried in Mt Moriah Cemetery. We then went to Sturgis to see where the motorcycles

Smooth sailing and wild riding

Today is the first big driving day we attempted with our three kidlets. We have never driven 7 hours with them and this will certainly set the stage for the other big drives we have coming on this trip. We got up early determined to leave the campsite early and actually left at 11 am.It was a cool 62 degrees driving today and Joe redistributed our weight between the camper and minivan which

"Snowdrops keep falling on my head"...but only the older crowd will get the reference

Today dawned partly sunny and beautiful. There was a definite chill in the air making us glad for our jackets and sweatshirts. Even though we would be in the van during the drive through the mountains I knew we'd be stopping for pictures often enough to warrant warm clothing. And stop we did I got in the driver's seat first so Steve would be able to look around. It's also more comfortable for me

Cody is Rodeo

Our journey from the Black Hills to Yellowstone was quite a long one so it required a couple of stopoffs along the way. Our first night in Wyoming was in the small town of Buffalo. We stayed in a nice little cabin in the KOA campground there had dinner out at the one local restaurant that was open on a Monday and that was pretty much it.Our next night however in Cody Wyoming was much more

from Buffalo to Buffalo

We left Yellowstone figuring it would take us about 45 minutes to reach the east gate. It took over two hours. Just a few miles from our lodge there was a back up caused by buffalo in the road. There were several in front of a bus walking down the middle of the road at their own pace. As we crawled along a few cars behind we spotted more and more buffalo along both sides of the road. When we r
