I had a great time in Bend Oregon visiting David and Mer Baker. Took a 3 day motorcycle ride to Crater Lake and the Oregon coast hiked Smith Rock and play a round of golf. The weather was absolutly beautiful

A Week at Sunriver OR

One of the best summer vacations we had as a family was in Sunriver Oregon when the kids were still around. We rented a condo for a week and drove up there in August. Though it was the height of summer season vacationing it was a pleasant restful and interesting week. Sunriver Resort is located on the dry side of the Cascades. Skiing is avilable nearby at Mt. Bachelor during the winter.

Smith Rock Oregon

Smith Rock Oregon. A small nondescript state park whose name doesnrsquot conjure up images of wild landscapes or scenic crags. In truth quite the opposite is true. Smith Rock is the home of sport bolted climbing in the US. When it was ethically prohibited to place bolts in the rock unless absolutely necessary which often translated to very sparse protection and very scary and potentially da

Going round the Bend

Bend is a city sitting at 4000 feet in the high desert in Oregon around 23 hours drive from Portland. The scenery is pretty wicki wicki wild wild west round here. Bend is a bit of an MTB mecca in the US but doesn't seem to hold the status in the UK of Moab in Utah or Fruita in Colorado. Like Whistler it has numerous shops where a great trail map is available with topography recommended rout

Day 9

I decided to forego the trip to Crater Lake to spend most of the day with family again because that was more important. That was why we came and I'm glad that we did that. I copied the pictures that Mariann had taken on Sunday so they wouldn't have to try and send them later and will post a few. It was an emotional goodbye for everyone for sure. We finally left around 430 though to try and g

Day 8 Bend Oregon

We had a very quiet morning and just rested. I talked with my cousins and we arranged a time to meet. Ed and Rhonda had been out camping with their motorcycle club and were going to come in the afternoon and Rick was going to see how many of his kids he could round up and bring. So we got to Aunt Mary's around noon and Mariann was waiting for us to get there. We got out and Aunt Mary was stan

Welcome to my travel blog After years of dreaming of all of the places I have read about I am finally embarking on the journey of a lifetime. My brother had a catastrophic accident last May and I realized that I can't put it off any longer. Beginning April 12 2008 I will sail from the U.S to South America cross the southern Atlantic trade route curve around west Africa into the Mediterranean

Preparing for the Road Trip to Mexico

My restless feet have been twitching fiercely since the return from Ireland in 2006. The coming of Mia Azul postponed any 2007 travel plans but we're all three armed with passports now and once again ready to travel. Our current adventure is a road trip to Mexico. I will be traveling with 5 year old Erika and 4 month old Mia. Our journey will cover approximately three weeks with travel time and va

When I finally left Crater Lake on thursday night twilight bathed the forest and peaks in a calm blue light. After some curves through the forest the road made an abrupt right turn. Ahead of me was 30 km of a downhill and lonely road which I proceeded to test the maximum speed of my VW Golf yet again. 180 kmh was the maximum velocity which had to save me at least 4 minutes on the 3 hour dri

We arrived in Bend Friday night and visited with LeAnnersquos friend Marja. We had a good time visiting with her LeAnne enjoyed catching up. We decided that we'd spend the next day letterboxing around the area to be able to visit the local parks. Our first full day in Bend we spent down at the Lava Cast Forest and the Lava River Cave.
Welcome to my "Lap of Luxery"

I made it Oregon...It was a long few days of driving across Utah Nevada and half way across Oregon.I covered 500 600 and a short 250 miles today. It's been an interesting twist as I've had to adjust to temperatures colder than I had anticipated. I know that I am well prepared to deal with these climate changes but Senor O while not having a problem is not adapting as quickly. He's doing fine

Howie and Judi very kindly let us use their bach for a night which was situated on the Little Deschutes River south of Bend. Driving over the Cascades to get there was an interesting experience as it was pouring rain and we were a bit worried about the amount of snow over the pass. Fortunately although there was quite a lot of snow on the ground is was quite warm and only raining. The road was

And the countdown begins until our next adventure Only 39 days until we get on that jet plane and take off across the ocean for the green isle of Ireland. There is so much to get done in that time and so much on our plates already. It has been one crazy year of planning with a thousand changes but the time is actually coming for us to take a vacation I am so excited and I'm about to move into t

Leaving Idaho on August 1 we headed west into Oregon. Eastern Oregon is quite different from Central Oregon which is quite different from the Oregon Coast. Driving from the eastern border to Bend located east of the Cascade Mountains takes you through high desert. We spent two weeks in Bend at Crown Villa RV Resort which has the nicest sites of any RV resort wersquove visitedhellip..hug

The first time I saw a hot air balloon night glow was entirely by happenstance. I was living in southeastern New Mexico at the time serving as a missionary and enjoying dinner with some members of the local congregation. Bobbing up over their backyard fence we could see the balloons inflate and rise into golden orbs glowing in the evening spring air. Dinner was forgotten as we dashed around th
