He who does not reach the great wall is not a true man this is the inscription on the first picture carved in stone. The sign on the way up that was more interesting was about climbing to your ability if you have heart or brain disease...Unfortunately some pollution set in today so the sky was not as blue as Monday but the temp was very good. No crowds low temp a plus for the kids. Der

Beijing At Last

Before returning to the States for the summer my friends and I took a trip up north to Beijing. Normally members of the CTLC have nearly three weeks of training in Beijing during which time new teachers can explore and see the sights. My group last year got the shaft due to the Olympics. Instead of three fun filled weeks in Beijing we got ten mediocre days in the small coastal city of Zhuhai. So

Today was a big day for everyone. All of the fellows began their research segments. It sounds as if everyone made it to their respective research sites without too many problems. The teachers and I met Yuehua at the hotel and we traveled to the Great Wall. Getting there was half the adventure After walking around to four different locations looking for taxis we headed to the nearest bus sto

We set out to see the Great Wall of China. We made the decision to travel 110km out of Beijing towards Jinshanling which is a quieter less touristy section of the wall.
Day 4 August 18 2009 I am picked up at my hotel at 9.00am and today I am crossing off one of the listings on my personal bucket list. First we go to the Ming Tombs. We are visiting just one tomb the tomb of Emperor Yongle. There are 13 Chinese Emperors buried in an area just below the foothills outside of Beijing. I suppose this is the Chinese equivalent of the Egyptian Valley of the Kings. Ho

Standing upon the wall one can look in any direction and see an endless mountain range fade into the horizon. There's no sign whatsoever of human civilisation except for the very wall upon which you stand and it too seems
