November first is the official end of hurricane season so it was time to leave Trinidad and start our trek north. We are very excite to start another cruising season in the Caribbean not only because our first stop is Grenada and the Grenadines which are amazing but also because we have so many islands to explore this year. Unlike last year where we had to travel over 2500 miles and therefo

We have been sailing around the Grenadines jumping from island to island and traveling back and forth. After our short stay in the Tobago Cays we went back up to Bequia for a reunion with SV Verna Breeze which was great fun But then hurricane Bertha started forming and was going to create some nasty weather so it was time to turn back and continue south again. We did a quick sail down to C

ten reasons...

Now that Regatta is over I can see how dead Carriacou is without it. During the weekend and on Monday there were all night parties food vendors everywhere all the shops were open nonstop. There were awesome competitions...beer drinking donkey races running sailing. I met some cool people including locals who were decidedly unsketchy and also a really awesome girl who does Peace Corps here

Excavation went well this week...we were only rained out on Monday. I was at grand bay all week and I even got to work on a human burial with Scott B the bioarchaeologist from Eckard who is here with us. The burial was really interest

Grenadines Grenada and Tobago

We spent most of June in the Grenadines. We visited Bequia Mustique Canouan Mayreau Tobago Cays Petit St. Vincent and Union Island. While sailing in the Grenadines we started traveling with several other boats from island to island. At one time we had as many as 8 boats traveling together. It was great fun and we made a lot of new friends. Toward the end of June we made our way further

HEY ALLTuesday through Thursday I was at Sabazan the other site on the island. This site is headed by a UW phd student that is doing a project about faunal animal remains there. The set up is a lot different than Grand Bay. We only have 56 people so it is a lot less crowdedchaotic. We also have much smaller and deeper trenches...instead of one big 5X5 we have 4 small 1X1s scattered through

We started digging on Monday. Our buses picked us up at 8 and we took the narrow winding road over the mountain to Grand Bay our principle site. A word about the drivers in Carriacou theyre completely NUTS They speed and take curves super sharp. They also honk at EVERYONE...I guess it's the polite thing to do when you know everyone on the island. Anyways we got there and started clearing the

A good friend of ours decided that the opportunity to escape the delights of a Canberra winter and come and bludge off us was too good to pass. So Svenny joined us for a couple of weeks which happened to coincide with the Australian cricket team's tour of the West Indies. Having been starved of any decent sport for the last 18 months this was too good an opportunity to pass up and we decided to bo

We spent Christmas here. We toured some more of the island and because our cruising permit was expiring on the 26 we needed to return the rental car. We stopped by Norbert's house. His girlfriend or wife Maria asked us to come inside. We sat in their living room Maria brought out a home made cake which was delicious and a Heineken for each of us. Unfortunately Tom did not go with us this day.
