After stopping to pick up our cars at Joe and Felicia's we got on the road. They were so nice to store our cars while we were gone. They gave each of the kids red Mount Gay Rum Figawi baseball caps from various past race years and the kids were delighted with them. I'll have to snap a picture of them wearing the hats. We got to see their stunning home again with their large backyard bird sanctu

Last Day on Nantucket

We got up and checked weather reports about the Tropical Storm Kyle that was heading our way A reminder that we are actually on a small piece of land surrounded by waterIt was raining harder on and off than we usually ever experience in Ohio. Quite an impressive display of water and still everything goes on pretty much as normal on Nantucket. It is just the getting on and off the island that ge

Wednesday was the day Jack planned for the beach because he read there was bad weather coming later in the week. Jack Hannah Isaac and Abe walked to the beach and Eliza and I drove there with beach chairs a ball a frisbee and a shovel. We stayed a couple of hours. At lunchtime we went to The Hen House for lunch. It is out by our house and fairly close to the beach as opposed to downtown. Ja

Sunny and bright but also windy today. Early this morning Jack Isaac and Abe and I walked into town. We are estimating it to be about a milelong walk. We went to the Even Keel Cafe on Main Street. It was really tasty. Terrific oatmeal juice etc. I bought a pound of the Even Keel House Blend Kenyan beans to bring home for the next big family gathering It will need to be ground Jack s

Had a great time watching the Emmy'sMonday was a little grayer. Hannah and Jack walked into town to check things out. The main part of town is just big enough to be interesting and small enough to be completely navigable on foot. Not to mention picturesqueI drove into town to meet them at the small grocery and drive their purchases back home. Jack and I paused in front of a live webcam and call

First Full Day on the Island

Jack and Hannah and I got up and walked downtown. It is about twenty minutes into town following one winding street past beautiful homes densely settled and each one prettier than the next. As you get close to town the streets are cobblestone originally ballast from early ships. The homes are fabulous and the nicest ones are often tied to the whaling industry owned by ship captains or others

We had beautiful weather for our ferry ride to Nantucket Joe and Felicia graciously allowed us to leave both cars in their driveway and so we saw them before we left. They were heading golfing Once on the island I rented a fourdoor maroon Jeep much like Jack's which he has not seen in a while because we rented it to James our Obama friend till the election.
Day Four...our Boston excursion

Wednesday the plan was to head up to Boston because it marked the halfway point in our weeklong Hyannis stay. We drove to QuincyBraintree area and settled on Braintree to park because it was only slightly less crowded than Quincy. We are such newbies to the magnitude of commuting so we were surprised that at 10 am we faced such choicesWe loved the train ride into the Park St. Subway station a

Something about the way the hurricane split over the Midwest left the Cape with an unseasonably warm and beautiful day today. The temperature was 85 and crystal clear We went to Grumpy's in East Dennis for their sumptuous breakfast and then drove to Nauset beach. Grumpy's was one of Felicia's suggestions from last year and one of our alltime favorites We had loaded the car with frisbees

We arrived Saturday nght on Cape Cod We listened to the OSUUSC game on the radio for the last hour of the trip and then saw the second half on the t.v. at the rental house. Sunday we settled in. We were glad to be in the same house as last Fall particularly enjoying the familiarity after the Big Move last week.We headed to Borders Books and Music and got some of each for the two weeks and som

Since Cape Cod for me consists of biking swimming and a ton of laundry I won't keep too many entries but I will leave behind a few thoughts. No matter which party you belong too it felt pretty historic to see everyone glued to their tvs on the plane watching Obama. Fact Obama's speeches are comforting during high turbulence. While going through security I heard a sixyear old kid say to his

We had a very busy day on saturday. It was the first day that we awoke to a cloudy day but we made the most of it and had a great day. First we had a short drive to Hyannis to board a boat to go whale watching. It was a pretty big boat and it took us about an hour to get to the whale watching area. There is no point me telling you about it just look at the photos and videos it was amazing

I'd never been to Cape Cod before and didn't know what to expect. A beach area is a beach area right Wrong The ocean water temperature is COLD There was pounding surf and miles of beaches but I voted to let my feet and legs stay sandy to stay out of the cooler than what I was used to water temperatures. After my second day at the Cape Orleans to be exact I mentioned to my daughter that I
