On our first morning in Malaysia we woke up as illegal immigrants in a brothel. It wasn't the best start. It all started going wrong the evening before when our bus in Thailand was late getting to the border with Malaysia. It dropped us off at the border crossing at 850pm giving us just 10 minutes before the border closed. We were hurried along by Thai officials who said we had enough time to get

The Perhentian Islands became our final destination on this trip. The name 'Perhentian' means 'a stopping point' which originated between traders who travelled between Malaysia and Bangkok Thailand during the British Colonial period now a days its more of 'a static point' for modern day travellers and keen or fearful scuba divers because no one ever wants to leave. We caught the boat from Kual

Today we had another lazy day on Longbeach topping up our tans. We also just had to sample a Mars and MM milkshake There was also a storm in the evening which was very strange. The wind got very strong like something big was about to happen and the guesthouse owners ran around shutting everything up. It just seemed to blow over though and before we knew it we were sat in Amelias enjoying the am

After a quick breakfast we met Matt the brother of our guesthouse owner for our snorkelling trip. He was going to take us to the best snorkelling sites on both islands for the whole day for only six pounds. We climbed into his fast boat and we were off speeding through the clear waters to Shark Point. There were also two Americans and one Spanish lady joining us on this trip. We were to drop in

At 7.55am sharp we were at our pickup point ready to be transferred to Jeranut. The bus was already waiting for us but we had to wait until 8am for other guests. The trip to Jeranut took only 1.5 hours and was very uneventful and bumpyAt Jeranut we ate breakfast and then transferred to another bus that would take us halfway to Kuala Besut Jetty our entry point to the Perhentians.
After taking a night bus from Kuala Lumpur and a fast boat from Kuala Besut we arrived in the Perhentian Islands on September 15. We spent 3 nights on the Perhentian island of Kecil. The Perhentian islands are a national park off the eastern coast of Malaysia the beaches were beautiful the sun was relentless and the water was crystal clear. From the moment we arrived we fell into a state of relaxation that became incredibly addictive I can fully apreciate why people on the Islands never leave. As tempting as it was for us to stay we managed to take ourselves away after a week but not b

The bus journey took 6 hours and then we caught a fast boat for around 30 minutes to the smaller island Pulau Kecil. We stayed in Lemongrass chalets on Longbeach which cost 6 euros each for a basic but clean chalet with hammock and then shared toilets. Food and drink cost much the same as the
