Hi. The journey back to Nothumberland was fine if rather exhausting. Christchurch airport was great no long queue and friendly staff. I slept well between Sydney and Dubai. That flight was an hour late so I had no time to look around Dubai airport and spend money. They were announcing the departure of the Newcastle flight as I entered the terminal building. A slight panic but I should hav

Hello I'm now ready for my first long haul flight on Saturday 25th October. I don't do things by halves so I'm flying to the other side of the world ie New Zealand. Its the country I've wanted to visit since the age of 9 so I'm really excited. I fly to Auckland from Newcastle via Dubai and Melbourne. Once there I meet up with a tour that visits many of the places of interest in 21 days so I'll

Staying in the historic city of Berwick Upon Tweed was a tactical decision because itrsquos within easy reach of Holy Island and because I found some really good books in the hostel lounge. It struck me as a curious place so I took a brisk walk around before leaving for Scotland. The quintessential border town Berwick pronounced Berrick was claimed by both Scotland and England and chang

And off to Bamburgh we went. Bamburgh Castle's about an hour and a half north of where we're staying. Again it's completely different to the castles I've been to as it's a lot more modern then then the others. It's more of a 18

Wow it was a long day but I think I've got the hang of this 'driving on the left side' thing. Justin sits next to me and repeats the mantra left side...left side...left side about every 30 seconds or so. I do okay but every now and again when we go around a corner and I see a car coming my way in the right hand lane I instictively jerk the wheel. I'm in the proper land left but my

Even though the day was a lot cooler than the previous day it did feel like we had done a Jane Fonda workout by the time we reached the top of Byrness Hill.
On Sunday we were up bright and early for a drive out to Holy Island which can only be reached by a causeway on low tide. This island is out in the North Sea and is home to Lindisfarne Castle and Lindisfarne Priory. The castle was much more modern than Alnwick as part of the castle hadn't even been built until the early 1900s. It was also much smaller but had an excellent view of the North Sea
