We will never fly standby at Christmas

We got home from LA in News Years Eve. We were very lucky. Most days the flights from LA to Houston were completely overbooked. Thursday look the best with a couple of flights with seats. Russ drove us to LAX at 6 am for a 9 am flight. We got there in 40 minutes instead of the usual 1 to 2 hours. We got on the 8 am flight to Houston instead of the 9 am flight. We then could not get on the n

What a difference a day can make when it comes to the weather. Yesterday it was 70 degrees when we arrived in Colorado Springs and this morning it was 37 degrees with light snow. UGH We had planned to go to Pikes Peak but obviously that was out of the question due to snow on the mountain. We chose instead to visit the Air Force Military Academy and the Chapel. At the visitor center we vie

We moved on to Colorado Springs today via a pretty direct route through mountain passes. What a huge variation in temperature and overall weather. The temp in Montrose was 43 with totally overcast skies. It dropped down to 32 with snow flurries in the mountains and then gradually up to as high as 70 degrees and clear blue sunny skies when we arrived in Colorado Springs. Sadly my leather companions did not hold up to the harsh elements and my final two weeks were spent with copious amounts of ducktape and superglue holding things together. They were unceremoniously retired but I hope to give them new life as flower pots whe

We entered Oklahoma with its wide fields as far as the horizon. After passing Oklahoma

When we got there the ticket lady told us that they were discounting the tickets because it would not be possible to go all the way to the summit today. In fact the tour guide on the train said that they had not been able to summit for three weeks now. Snow drifts from higher up the mountain were breaking and falling onto the tr
