Dal and then some..

After a full night's sleep we hit the ground running..Sarita and her husband Jse notice the accent drove us to Figueres to see el TeatroMuseo Dal. The drive up there was incredible. We passed some beautiful mountain and I was able to see the snowcapped Pyrenees way off in the distance though they didn't really show up in the pictures very well. I've posted a bunch of pictures of the driv

Fortifying Our Surrealist Minds

Guess what being in a dorm with other people sucks especially when the other people are French. Even though we were fast asleep in bedthe French kids thought it was entirely appropriate to continue their evening inside the dorm even at four in the morning. We would have reciprocated this morning when we got up at eight but there was another couple still sleeping. We had breakfast and checked tr

Figueres SpainThe home of Dali

Yesterday we took a day trip up to Figueres to the place where Salvador Dali was born where he died in 1989 and also where his museum was built in 1974. He was quite an intelligent eccentric and egotistical manslasharistic genious. He was quite proud and a bit arrogant about his accomplishments. I love this quoteby Salvador Dali himself...Each morning when I awake I experience again a s

Crazy Cool Dali

TeatreMuseu Dali aka The Dali TheaterMuseum is one of the most impressive museums Irsquove been to. Therersquos so much to see my eyes hurt after spending a few hours there. Dali personally designed decorated and painted this museum to showcase his works there are a few other artist there as well. Therersquos way to much to write it all down so Irsquoll just share some pictures. S

Seaside getaway and the mind of Dal

1819 February I took a few days off between Vipassana courses to go up the coast to Cadaques and Figueres both long time haunts of Salvador Dal. Cadaques is a beautiful little whitewashed town right on the water. It was the middle of the week and very quiet a perfect place to relax for a few days before starting to cook for 60 people again. It was wonderful to just walk through the narrow

Dali Museum Figueres

Hot hot hot in Figueras. Almost two hours away from Barcelona by train but a comfortable ride. Having to line up in the hot sun to get into the Museum was a turn off but you'll find that everywhere especially in summer with throngs of tourists. TeatreMuseu Dali was interesting albeit packed with tourists. I like taking my time looking at pieces but it was a bit hard being sandwiched right left

Salvador Dali Life and Times

Salvador Dali TourIf you are not a fan of Dali's work which Jason very much is or don't know much about him hopefully this might bring about some interest. We rolled into Figures later than planned on September 7 2004 and after finding our hostel we quickly decided it best not to stay in the area. Dark dingy streets very unwelcoming. So we found another spot for the night. Not high cla

Salvador Dali was great

On my Switzerland I made a stop in the town of Figueres near the French border. This town is a real dive with one amazing site the Dali muesum. Designed by the artist himself it's nothing like a mueseum and is more like a Surrealist playground. There tons of surrealist objects hidden rooms holograms etc. There is the Mae West apartment and a car suspended by chains filled with sea uchins.
