An Edinburgh Experience

Today we drove to Edinburgh. We opted for the motorway instead of the scenic route but still managed to see a few country towns along the way. Edinburgh is such a pretty city I was expecting it to be dull and drab a little working class but the streets were filled with gorgeous buildings. Our first stop was Edinburgh Castle home to the Scottish Royal Jewels and a place steeped in Scottish hi

We arrived in Edinburgh on Good Friday then travelled up north to spend Saturday and Sunday with our friend Scotty then spent Monday back in Edinburgh. We took a super early train from London to Edinburgh which is a fourhour trip and arrived just before lunchtime. We galliv

I39ve heard vicious rumors to the effect some of you dear readers are under the impression that we39ve had horrible weather and suffered incredible trials and that our trip has been one obstacle after another. Not true. We are having a great time. We are feeling stronger every day and we do smile and we do laugh often. Really.Of course we know that nobody really wants to hear about the good

Believe it or not the sun came out and the wind died down. We slept in a bit and had a leisurely breakfast. Joe and I headed out to the Royal Mile this time towards the bottom and Holyrood Palace. This is where the Queen stays when she is in town. Though the original structure dates from the 120039s the palace we see today is due to the renovations under Charles II. Along the mile are the te

Our first full day in in the capital of Scotland was cool and drizzly with a sharp cold wind off the North Sea. We met our guide Gail in the lobby and headed out across the bridge from the New Town to the Royal Mile. The buildings here are about eight stories high and narrow mostly made of dark stone. There have been tenements here since the town was developed and though the buildings here are mo

Day 5 Inverness to Edinburgh Today we traveled south towards Edinburgh with plenty of stops along the way. On the way to our first stop we saw snow on the roadside and light flurries on the windshield not the king of weather we were hoping for.
I took the Ryan Air commuter from Dublin to Edinburgh on Tuesday morning. Expecting full customs and passport checks I arrived at the Dublin airport 2 full hours in advance. Big mistake. Apparently travel within the EU is much easier than I expected. Perhaps I mistakenly took the wrong line but it seemed like everyone from the US was going through the same line group think at its finest. At lea

The Grassmarket newly refurbished hotel is so comfy that I39d rather linger in my bed today. Afterwards we had HighTea and the Gallery cafe. Next we walked around a bit and ended up in a pub. As we sat and drank I noticed that there was an advertisement for a Super Bowl party that will be held this Sunday. It turns out that the S

We walked around a bit inn the rain and then stopped at a pub. The beer was really good. So good in fact that we stopped at a store and bought a bottle for the room. The pub itself wasn39t very cool. Charles and I were the only two in it. It was too modern...Katty Perry sang about

A gentle rain falls as the sun sets in Edinburgh. Charles is still taking a nap. At first I couldn39t figure out how to turn on the lights in our hotel room. Then I discovered that you have to put your room keycard in a special slot for any of the lights to work. Interesting...I was disappointed not to find a bidet in the bathroom. I haven39t used one since 1988...good times. There was ho
