Hello again all my friends Sorry to have already missed my once a week deadline. I39m toward the end of three weeks of orientation mostly in Windhoek but last week we spent in Imungwelume up north near the city of Oshakati. We didn39t have wireless available and I have not bought a Netman which lets you do internet through the phone lines because I am pretty sure my school will ha

We are here

After a very very very long trip we arrived in Windhoek yesterday late afternoon. The airport reminded me of the airport in Charlottetown. It was way out of town but they had met us with vans so it was easy. On the way in we saw some gazelles. It is now January 1st in Namibia. I need to go to bed but wanted to let everyone know I am safe and sound here. We walked into the city today and

Today amrked the first of a few change over days on the tour for us. Today Ali Lino Luis Ana HansPeter and Barbara were leaving the tour The upside to this was that there would be new people joining Once we arrived in Windhoek Anna Brendon and I tested the pool out and once again it was far too cold to be of any use to us. I ended up sitting around the pool and having a beer with Ray b

Windhoek Germany... I mean Namibia

It was another full day on the road getting from Maun to Windhoek. I was up at 7 a.m. to pack my tent away which was one of the coldest experiences I have ever had. I thought my fingers were going to fall off from frost bite. As I said in the previous post Botswana public transport is not too plentiful so I made sure I was on the bus to Ghanzi at 8.30 a.m. where we arrived at around 1 o39cl

Windoek Namibia 29 August 2012We arrived in Windoek at lunch time and booked into our rooms. We then had a pizza for lunch and caught the hotels bus into the city. Tom had a haircut and I found a card and present for Tom. Cards are certainly not a thing that the Namibians do as I had a difficult time finding a card. I also had worse trouble finding a get well card for my little granddaughter Ge

Day 1 Arriving in Windhoek

We started thinking about a trip to Africa last year and after deciding on a self drive the number of countries that we could go to was reduced quite a bit and in the end we decided to go to Namibia and South Africa which seemed to encompass most of what we wanted to see or experience. Given the difficulty of booking accomodations especially in Namibia we decided to employ a travel agent and after

Namibia Final Word

Well how do I describe our holiday to Namibia two years ago when we went to South Africa I stated it was the best holiday ever but this has been more than a holiday it has been an adventure better than anything we have experienced in our lives. Before I came here when people asked where we were going on holiday and I said Namibia we got two reactions one was wheres that the other

11 days to go

With only eleven days to go before we leave for Italy excitement levels are rising and it is becoming impossible to concentrate at work. All that still needs to be booked is the train tickets that would be a walk in the park as I have already downloaded the train schedules and have a fair idea what the cost of these tickets are. Hours of googling and internet searches being dubbed Google qu

Namibia Day 15

Our last full day in Namibia and a very cold night in our tent when it got down cold enough for frost to form. Due to an administrative error another early start was on the cards as the alarm went off at 6am but we got to see a wonderful sunrise. Because we were early for breakfast we got to see the staff feeding the local bird population we managed to count fifty lovebirds before they consumed

Visa mania

It is 21 days before me and MZ leave for Italy. And as excitement levels rise the stress levels also climb a few notches. I was not planning on stressing this much about the trip. If it39s not accommodation it39s train passes and tickets giving me a headache. I was dubbed google queen but even I need more than one computer screen to figure out how far the train stops from our hotel and muc

Our first full day in Namibia and certainly a day of firsts. We woke up this morning well before the alarm finally feeling refreshed after the 22 hours spent travelling. After a lovely breakfast this morning we headed off from Windhoek and leaving the metalled roads just outside of the capital we hit the gravel. Well not literally but swayed and swung along catching sight of ostrich baboons an

Up at a leisurely time this morning and a nice breakfast at Elegant House in Windhoek. Laston picked us up for the transfer to Na39ankuse where we discovered one of our photo tour group had already checked in and was on a feeding tour of the animals. This is an amazing place run by Marlice and Rudy van Vurren but mostly it39s Marlice who has a special relationship with the animals. They hav

This morning we arrange for a city tour driven by Laston who operates a transfer and tour service.
Wednesday...Bedtime...Blog. It is very strange to get ready for bed and then notice it is afternoon back home. We both adjusted really well to the time difference. Thank you crazy residency lifestyle and OnCall lack of sleep schedules. Being awake for 30 hours straight several times a week really has its benefits. Especially if you need to adjust to jet lag and work the next day. Seriously
