Oh how we love Mancora. We love you so much that when we went 2 hours too far on our bus and arrived in Tumbes we spent 20 EACH on the taxi ride back to your sandy shores. Ouch. But spending a few days lazing about in a little beach town was worth it. Although if Oliver has to compare and contrast another tortuga keychain I think he'll go crazy. As the weekend approaches more and more well dr

Last night I hit the sack around 1030 and around 11 a live band started playing at one of the restaurants on the beach. I had my window open for some fresh breeze and it was pretty loud...but it was decent latin music so I managed to sleep on and off until 4am when they called it quits.I woke up around 1030 feeling pretty good...a lot better than I thought I would. I went and knocked on the Candia

The Road to Mncora

We hopped off the bus in Tumbes around 430 and caught a tuktuk to the bus station where we could get a bus to Mncora. A tuktuk is part motorbike part rickshaw that was LOTS OF FUN We made it to the bus station just in time and were able to hop on the 5pm bus to Mncora. It was a dirty smelly bus but our only mode of transportation to our Shangrila on the beach I popped open the window and

Mancora A little luxury to end the trip

The VIP section of the bus to Mancora was sold out so we had to make do with 2nd class which is still luxurious. We arrived in Mancora in the morning and after haggling with a tuk tuk driver we settled on staying at Kon Tiki Bungalows a little bit of luxury to end my trip. They are set slightly above the town and he soon realised his tuk tuk couldn't make the journey so we had to walk.It was

Mancora Peru

The trip to Peru yesterday was long and boring although the border crossing wasn't as bad as we had been anticipating. There was a 5hour bus to the Ecuadorian Immingration office then a short bus to the border which exists in the middle of the border town Huaquillas. We opted to get a private minivan for 4 each to get us to Mancora in 2.5 hours half the time that the other option of 3 buse

The bohemian beachside town of Mancora

So we spent 4 days in the beautiful relaxed and superbohemian beachside town of Mancora. It was our first stop in Peru after spending a gruelling entire day on a bus to cross the border. We arrived late at night and racked up to a not so great hostal called Hostel Sol y Mar. The guidebooks rate it as value for money and a good place to stay. I disagree. It sounded like we were right next to a ni

26th September

The sound of the ocean thundering against the shore was the wake up call for this particular morning. It was also the sound that lulled us to sleep the night before. The beach is relatively steep here at Mancora so the sea is never far away.Swimming in the sea is just great here too as the temperature is quite high due to the currents in the area. Swimming with you are a variety of local sea
