I can't believe I board the plane in 36 hours. I'll arrive in Hong Kong at about 3am PDT which is when I normall go to bed. So that will work out well. It's odd to realize that this is my second to last night on the continent. I feel like I should be out whooping it up going crazy making a little trouble and not getting caught of course. But I'm here packing sipping a beer and contem

For once I am feeling unverbose. If that's a word. Spell check says no but I say to heck with that.I'll probably use this opportunity to post way too many pictures of sunsets walking tours and my favorite lightning taken tonight. My arrival in Phoenix was hot. Shocking I know. First I was warm. Then I felt like all my nose hairs had been singed off and it burned to breath. Then I w

It's official I have no keys. These past few weeks have been nothing short of a whirlwind. I deliberately pushed it off as long as I could. I knew once things started it would be one long string of dominoes and I really wanted to enjoy life as it was for as long as I could. Finally it hit me I move out and pack the POD in 2 weeks. I have company coming in the middle. The clock is ticking..

The Lost Memory CardAbout 20 miles outside of Sedona in the old mining town of Jerome we fortunately stopped to check out the shops in town and I flipped the camera on to get ready to take some pictures since the view was great only to realize the miniscule microSD card was missing.
We waved goodbye to the spectacular Californian coastline turned inland and were back in the mountains. Poor old Tommy had his work cut out climbing up and down and zig zagging this way and that. Our next destination was Death Valley doesn't sound very appealing. We left the threat of the great white behind and only had to contend with rattlesnakes scorpions and tarantulas. Our biggest worry wa

Howdy y'all. I'm out in the wild west now it's been a long drive. I got to Prescott at about 8 PM last night to meet Daniel. Supposed to pick him up at a campsite just outside of town where he was hiking with some friends so I got directions there from one of his friends in town. After some travails finding the place I was alarmed to find no one waiting for me there. To make a long story short

June 2006Mountain Camping Trip and Visit to the town of Jerome Arizona It was a great day for a camping trip to the mountains. I live only 6 miles from the Mingus Mountain Range and the road winds up from 5000 at my place in Prescott Valley to Potato Patch Campground at 7000 feet. The temperatures are always about 10 degree cooler during our summers which make it a great place to do some hik

I came to Prescott Arizona for a two week visit. I have been here four and to say it has been a life changing experience would be an understatement. As I sit here on the eve of a trip to the Grand Canyon I have a desire to be articulate about what the loss of my mom has meant. All I can manage at this early date is to let the wave of sadness wash over me. Time will have to be given its due bef

My mother Virginia Bagby Askerman passed away tonight. She was surrounded by her three sons husband daughterinlaw step daughter and pastor. She died in peace and dignity surrounded by the people who meant the most to her. The energy compassion love and support shown by all of you is testament to who she was. Even those who did not know her have been of tremendous help. Thanks you.

My mom is a fighter. By all indications that we can measure she appears to have beaten the sepsis a whole system infection that 80 of those who face it do not recover from. She has done this with an immune system that was wiped out by the chemotherapy treatment. Her heart is doing its own work and her kidneys are starting to move fluid out of her body. She is still in a tough position and th

This Message is from my mothers husband DougThis has got to be a confirmation of the power prayer We have taken a small ittybitty step back from the precipice. Today Ginnyrsquos signs remained stable. Her BP pulse blood oxygen and urine output have remained stable and slightly improved. She is still totally sedated and is receiving about 20 of the last vasoconstrictor. This morning

Ginny is still hanging on Her BP is stable and they were able to wean her off of another of the vasosupressors. She is holding her own on the Oxygen and is still heavily sedated. They are hoping to be able to feed her intravenously this afternoon. On the down side her blood tests this morning were almost identical to yesterday morning. We will be giving her another treatment of platelets

Ginny is holding steady on her blood pressure and her organ functions. When awake she is lucid and responsive. We have two challenges. The first is that the drug that is keeping her bp steady is also causing her to bleed. The second is that the chemotherapy is causing her white blood cell count to drop. This compromises her ability to fight the infection. Basically the drugs that are workin

After a very tense morning Ginny is improving slightly this evening. Her heart rate has risen to an acceptable level and her temperature has dropped to normal. They have been able to drop down on the dosage of one of the drugs and will work on the second overnight as long as she holds her blood pressure. They are still working the antibiotics into her. She was more lucid this afternoon and was

My mom Ginny is holding her own as of this morning. Her blood pressure has increased and has stabilized at about 100 over 50. This is possible only with a lot of medication. The immediate concern is to get her blood pressure to stabilize without the medication. At the same time they are attacking the pneumonia and Sepsis with a lot of antibiotics. She has been awake and responsive to us ans

Sitting in the Salem train station I was a little apprehensive about the idea of spending all night on the train. Will I get any sleep My fond memories of train travel included a sleeper car. In those memories I was the cute little white kid entertained by the colored sleeping car porter who turned our room into an amusement park with seats that fold into beds. But now on my own nickel I was
