The peak is the limit above the clouds

Dobry Den everyone. We are now in Slovakia in the High Tatras. We got here last night and have been enjoying the views of the peaks above us. We have been enjoying local slovak foods including pasta with nuts pierogis and something called the Robbers Purse. Today we took a cable car to the peak. We were up about 2634m. Beautiful views above the clouds and we even had a cup of tea at the peak. Too

Spis Castle and the High Tatras

Spis Castle is a very big very old ruin of a castle and very famous. It is on quite a little hill but the site is very well chosen as itrsquos visible in any direction and obviously good at guarding all around. On the road we went thru a very long tunnelmdash 5 kilometres of very high tech roadingmdashas we came out there was the castle a few km away framed in the opening of the tunnel guar

The Way It Used To Be Chapter Fourteen Tatransk Lomnica

Scarontrebsk Pleso anchors the west end of the Tatras rail line while Tatransk Lomnica occupies the other. Both have cable cars take hikers to trails located at higher altitudes. While a nine hour march along a mountainside did not appeal to me I made a half day of it and hiked about two hours. On the way I scooped up Midori from Niigata Japan and convinced her to tag along. She is a

Poprad is the economic center and rail junction of Slovakiarsquos High Tatras region of. Yet when pulling into the station one tends to wonder why. Whatrsquos the big deal What mountains Where On an overcast day the mountains are concealed in clouds leaving the newly arrived to reconsider why they came this far for a mountain getaway. No mountains are to be found anywhere. Yet as

Reveling in the emptiness of my compartment on the train to Poprad I willingly welcomed an elderly couple to join me. They had been seeking a seat up and down the corridor. Usually I am not enthralled with younger men who join me. It usually results in very loud and obnoxious noise emanating from their earphones. On the other hand travelers many years older than me are agreeable and at the

We first had to catch the train from Proprad up to Stary Smokovec where we bought a hiking map and small book detailing some of the different hikes in the Ta

We booked a bungalow at Eurocamp something we werent overly happy with our preconceptions of Eurocamp werent very positive but it was the cheapest deal in the area by a long shot. On arrival we were met with sights of men wearing the shortest shorts you can imagine playing noisy gam

Snow Hiking The first day we did a short hike 3 hours up to a waterfall which was a bit disapointing but the hike was nice.
Much to our disgust we boarded our train to the Tatras straight after our train to Bratislava from Budapest to find it was absolutely chocker block However we were very lucky to find a cargo carraige that we were allowed to sit in So we had a very pleasant ride sprawled out with the big sliding doors open watching the beautiful Slovakian countryside roll past. When we finally arrived in Terchov
