We left Norseman yesterday morning driving through bush until finally the land opened out to wheat and sheep country. The few little towns were by railway lines where there were big silos for loading the wheat onto trains. We finally got to Port Augusta and drove around the waterfront two big ships were in port a huge silo at the wharf and a big jetty out into the bay. After driving around to

Our four days at Kalgoorlie were very busy we did a 200 km outback pub crawl that took us to some unusual pubs as the pictures show. The circuit took us north towards Laverton and back through Coolgardie mostly on red dirt roads. The Kalgoorlie Super Pit is a huuuge open cut gold mine that operates 247. They extracts gold at the rate of 16 ounces per ton of rock. I tried to count the number of

We have now left the outback and are back on the South coast in Esperance. It was a relatively short drive of 4 hours. We have driven over 2000kms already Although it is a bit dull at times the roads are very quiet no chance of getting stuck in a traffic jam around here and we do have the ipod. The itrip which lets us play the ipod through the radio is one of the most useful things we brought

Travelling across the Nullarbor wasnrsquot much to write home about. We stopped to look at the start of the bight and then again closer to the WA border. A lot of the diversions off the main highway to the cliffs of the Great Australian Bight were closed due to cliff erosion. We witnessed this erosion first hand as we found a dirt track to the cliffs to have our last lunch before the WA quar

The Camps 4 book says you can camp there but there is a no camping sign but we think it referred to the November to April season very confusing. It was on the foreshore behind the grass and trees. Fairly sheltered but on the beach the waves were crashing and thumping all day and night. Walked up the steps to see the view over King George Sound very

Nullabor Plains The first break on the journey across the Nullabor Plains was at the Nullabor Roadhouse just past the Head of the Bight seasonally closed until June. Strange to see a whale statue out in the desert but at one stage in history this land was home to the largest inland sea. As we were packing up we were fortunate to see the Royal Flying Doctors take off from behind the Motel.Th

Sheila and Matilda being the most popular but cliched nominations we finally settled on Tilly short for the more common Matilda. Now we're going to start a new competition.
