With my family winging their way back to the UK my attention now turned to trying to summit arguably Ecuador39s most famous peak the perfect cone of the Cotopaxi volcano topping out at 5897metres for reference Kilamanjaro is a fraction smaller at 5895m. Given that on my previous travels I had summitted a higher peak Huayana Potosi at 6092m and therefore could appreciate just how tou

At the beginning of the week I arrived in Baos the adventure capital of Ecuador. The small town is set in a valley that is surrounded by sheer mountains and even an active volcano. It is where the thrill seekers congregate to partake in the likes of white water rafting canyoning and bridge jumping. I set myself up a a new hostel just on the outskirts of town which in Baos means that it was

From Mancora in Peru James and I caught an overnight bus to Cuenca in Ecuador. At first I was a bit apprehensive as a lot of the posts I had read online had talked about the border check points being quite far apart from each other and buses that were meant to be going straight through just kicking you off and leaving you to your own devices. It turned out however that due to certain degrees of co

Monday April 8 2013By the time we left Cuenca we had stayed at the Mansion Alczar for 28 days. Since previous travel experiences have typically involved moving from location to location to cover more territory staying in one place gave us a different kind of experience from any we have had before. Staying at Mansion Alczar for so long we got to know the hotel staff quite well and in this
