A Land of Extremes

Despite three tough gradlevel midterms looming in the coming week 31 classmates and I decided to take advantage of a three day Columbus Day weekend and trek to Iceland for a much needed break. After landing at 630AM and making the 45 minutes drive from Keflavik airport to Reykjavk amidst a cloudy sunrise we were greeted in our hotel lobby with what we were to find out was a ubiquitous odor of

When I leave this earth I will spend eternity in the glorious forever of epic feast and neverending battle that is Valhalla.
A whistle stop tour of the capital to whale watching in rough seas

Our second to last day saw us returning to the capital. Yes it still looked as grey as ever. We drove under the Hvalfjordur tunnel to get there. Due to the Iceland marathon being on we only had a very short tour of the town which meant basically a quick look at the cathedral and a very quick tour of the 'Perlan.' After a quiet afternoon sorting out we went out the the harbour for our great 'whale

Land of Ice and Fire

We started our Iceland adventure on a busy Friday evening at Heathrow. The flight to Reyjavik was smooth and we were soon there. Our first accommodation was at the university just across from the main cathedral. Memories of 1970's college halls of residence came flooding back. The furniture even looked the same. We awoke throughout the night to the sound of what seemed to be a seal clapping but in

A very very white xmas was spent in Iceland. We headed over on the 23rd and as we were landing were confronted with the moon like landscape. Completely different from all the photos we had seen of iceland. The ground was flat and rocky with a light dusting of snow. It was also barren with no trees or bushes.First day in we went to check out the town and to purchase our christmas presents for t

Have fun.We woke up early still on the old European time zone 2 hours ahead and managed to catch Iceland lose to Korea.
We spent our last day in Hveraderdi off route 1 about half an hour south east of Reykjavik. Its situated the other side of the mountains from Eggy Valley my name for it and the first glimpse you get of the town is when you are decending down the main road which curls round the side of a mountain. Its in the highly active geothermal area so there are plumes of steam randomly popping up from t

Had a bit of a cry this morning. Our time in Iceland is coming to an end and I don't want to go home I have fallen head over heals in love with this place. I loved Australia but this is different. I have done so many amazing things here and I want to do so much more. I could easily stay here for a month and never tire of it. As the name suggests I was expecting it to be pretty cold there but I was pleasantly surprised when I turned up and it was actually warmer than London My first day it was about 2325 degrees. Very nice It didn't last though and although it got cooler there was no need for the thermals I took along.Anyway I landed in Iceland in a place called Kefl

A 3 hour flight later and I was landing in Iceland. Before the plane even touched the ground I was thinking to myself I have got to come back here sometime. The landscape

I guess i'll pick up from where the last entry left off and continue through to my departure. I am going to put a ton of pictures up and I suggest you check them out. The Icelandic countryside is ridiculously stunning. When this trip was initially booked I did some research and found that Reykjavik despite it's reputation for crazy nightlife is really only a party town ThursSat. As a result I

Also I was not expecting tropical weather it was a reference to the song Tropical Iceland by the Fiery Furnaces. Ok from the top then.
