North Rim and Bryce Canyon

We got an early start from Zion hoping to snag one of the firstcome firstserved campsites at the North Rim. The forecast was for daytime temps in the 60s 40s at night. Pretty good camping weather. However when we arrived at Grand Canyon Natl Park it was only about 45 degrees and the campsites were all filled. Probably best all around as we were pretty done with cold nights. We hiked out to

Friday I finished work and got back home around 2pm. Unfortunately the others weren't back til nearly an hour later. Then people had to shower and we loaded up the car. Stopped for groceries and for Julia to get books from the library. Finally set out about 430 which was much later than I had hoped. However the drive went very smoothly. Even with no music. We had lots of good conversation and

It is an ideal place to stay for visiting the Park and has the extra benefit

Our plan was to do another hike today. I think the cowboy hat I bought was my best investment on the entire trip. It is so hot out and the hat does wonders to keep the sun off. I may continue be a cowgirl when I get homeB

Today we went for a short hike in Bryce. It was pretty good until it started raining but even then it wasn't too bad. The hoodoos the tall columnlike thingies in the pictures are even more impressive from below. In the second half of the way we went for a scenic drive on Highway 12 and I use the term highway very loosely to Boulder Utah the most remote town I've ever seen. It's been said

Apparently the fire there is still burning but it under control. On the way we stopped at Cedar Breaks National Monument trivia the President can declare a national monument but congress has to vote on national park status.Bryce is much higher than Zion about 3000m compared to 1000m and is much colder I actually wore my fleece jacket which I li

July 7thOff to Bryce canyon. The trip started out with desert but after a while the landscape changed and we found ourselves driving through canyons and Very nice views and a relief after the desert. We did at some time have a funny experience suddenly in the middle of nowhere there were hundreds of windmills on a hilltop quite impressive. We could began to see the red rocks that we have seen o

We left last night for Bryce Canyon. The drive took about 2 hours. What surprises me the most about Utah is how green South Utah is. When I thought of Utah I thought it would be desert. Parts of it are but a big portion of it is a national forest. Bryce Canyon is beautiful. It is full of multicolored rock foramtions. We took a three mile hike down into the canyon. We were able to hike th

Bryce Canyon

Spent some time at Bryce Canyon today. Nice park. The park is known for its hodoos which you will see in the photos. The Navajo say that the cayote who is known as a trickster turned the people into stones. The park was full of pine trees and had great scents and the weather was great. Called it quits early today as I didn't stop until late last night.

Another spectacular day. We started out early in the morning about 7 a.m. with a hike up the Emerald Pools trail in Zion and when I say up I mean up There are three sets of pools that are formed from runoff from the porous limestone cliffs and you climb like a mountain goat to all three of them. Our reward was being about the only hikers on the trail and then a serene breakfast at the top po
