The main reason I stopped in Phitsanulok or Philo how it is called here was that I needed reliable Internet access to work a bit. That is your destiny when you run your own company sometimes you cannot avoid to work a bit even while travelling. But the trip has to be paid nonetheless. But after a long evening and a short night I was ready to look around the city a bit. In the morning I got s

Another long weekend here in Thailand this time it was the Queen39s Birthday which apparently doubles up as Mother39s Day here. I took the opportunity to make an even further trip up north this time travelling some six hours plus to Phitsanulok almost at the halfway mark to Chiangmai. The main point of the trip was to visit the nearby Sukhothai Historical Park. The two cities along with

We left Bangkok behind and started our roadtrip up North. First we visited the summer palace for the royal family. We then continued on to Ayutthaya the old capital of Thailand. Ayutthaya had some impressive ruins including Bang PaIn Palace which included a Buddha statue head intertwined in a Bodi tree tree Buddha mediated under to reach enlightenment. Finally we finished up in Lopburi to visi

We went to the old town to the Historical Park to see a load of monuments.
I made it through 10 days of noble silence at my Vipassana Mediation course. It was pretty intense. I found it very challenging but worth it. I don39t want to describe too much as I don39t want to project any of my experiences on someone who has not yet gone through the course. All I have to say is it was worth it. The facilities were clean the food was very good and the meditation practic

Returned from a weekend road trip to Chiang Mai this evening. Two days and 10 hours on the road total. A bit hot in the afternoons as you might expect with some light rain in the late morning on the way back.I ride around Thailand on a Honda Wave 125 and I manage to cruise between 100110 kph most of the time. This trip down from Chiang Mai's Railroad Station on Sunday started early at 0725 with

lazy picture blog today. sukhothai is in central thailand we had to stay in a small town called phitsanulok for two days with no hot water no flushing toilets and a squatting toilet at that. the room was just enough for our hard 'bed' to fit in which was more like a wooden plank with a seedy sheet thrown over it than something one would call a comfortable piece of furniture on which one sleeps

Friday 20thWe headed south to a workaday Thai town called Phitsanulok by express coach. I unfortunately left our detailed guidebook on the bus so we didn't even have a map of town. We found a reasonable guest house however having rejected the first. I went out for a walk on my own and was immediately struck by the town. There is virtually no provision for western tourists here. I could find hard

We climbed aboard the open top jeep with our two tour guides Kim Eg at the front. The express ways in Thailand are for more advanced than those of India and this made our journey a lot more enjoyable. We made a couple of comf

September 18 2008....This has been by far one of the most difficult and rewarding experiences i have ever had in my life. Personally not being able to speak touch or have eye contact with anyone during 10 days really hit me. At the beggining is difficult to understand a lot of things but as days go by everything starts making sense. Being isolated immersed in my own world allowed me to focu

April 12 The 12th was another day of travel. I flew from Siem Reap to Bangkok. I then had to find a way to Phitsanulok which is a little over 300 Kms away. I decided on a taxi. I was offered a ride for 5ooo Baht 165. I decided to keep trying but I had a crazy lady follow me around the airport and tell other taxi drivers not to give me a better deal. I was pissed I finaly found a ride for 4

On Thursday 3rd we 'woke up' from having an aweful sleep on our uncomfortable bus to Chiang Mai. It arrived just before 9am after 16 hours on 3 buses was comforting to see our bags still in the bus. We payed the standard 3 baht to use a toilet and then got a Tuk Tuk to MD Guest house. This place was like a hotel with wifi ac and a swimming pool all for less the 7.50 a night each well inside

Pampering ourselves in Phitsanulok

After about an hour long bus ride we arrived in Phitsanulok a town convenient to hang out it because it's on the railway and also has very reasonable and nice accomodations. We decided this would be a good place to find a room with AC and maybe even a TV to spoil ourselves a little bit. After some searching we ended up in a place recommended by our guidebook called the Lithia Guesthouse.

We arrived in Phitsanalok in the hot evening air after a long but pleasant bus ride. It's a large city in northcentral Thailand and we really had no intention of staying for any length of time as it was a stopping point on our way to Loei. When you get off a public bus at a bus station in Thailand you are a piece of fresh meat to the hungry dogs known as tuktuk drivers. They can smell you

Hey everyone we are now in central Thailand. Since our last entry we have taken a slow boat upriver on the Mekong to cross from Laos into northern Thailand. This was great we would thoroughly recommend the upriver run heaps of room on board with the boat moving slow enough that you get a really good look at the sights and scenery drifting by. The cold drinks and nibbles available also h
