We had to get up early at 2.30am on Monday morning to get ready to be at the airport by 4.35am to catch our plane to Nepal which is an hour away from Delhi. We arrived at Kathmandu at 9.55am on a rainy morning and after clearing customs visa and health check we wer

In the evening I was invited to join them on the camping site. She had two travel companions and we had a pleasant time with the four of us. It was getting late and she uncorked a bottle of wine and poured three glasses two for her travel companions and one for herself. It was obviously that I was ignored and I observed this spectacle with some humor. The next morning she stood next to my car wi

I was fortunate to find an affordable volunteer program in Nepal which I participated in for one month as an English teacher. I say affordable because in today's 'Brave New World' it's all business and most programs' weekly prices are equivalent to an allinclusive week vacation in the Caribbean. So much for volunteering in the traditional sense of the word. Even though they had medical assi

What to Do Kathmandu

After a really great send off in England and Sweden I set off on my long journey for Nepal. I had to fly via Hong Kong so had to go way past Nepal to then fly 5 hours back in the opposite direction. Due to a change in the flights it was a really tight connection and although I made it my bags didn't I am now reunited with my backpack but it took a few days and meant that I had to hang out here

NamasteHave arrived in Kathmandu feeling quite jet lagged and spacey. It's same vibrant colourful dusty bustling place as ever and managed to find Brian and the group that I am walking with. There are about 15 of us and they're mostly Scottish and very nice. We'll see what happens at altitude And now I'm sheltering in an internet cafe in Thamel kathmandu region someone is smoking

Loads to talk about but owing to a slight hiccup basically the electricity is restricted to 4 hours a day and a change of plan in having to fly to Kathmandu rather than bus it we haven't at the moment got the facility to write much now. However here are some photographs to go on with and if we cannot write tomorrow 13th March it will be a week or so before we can do anymore as we shall be wal

The boss from the trekking company was there to meet us from the flight which was really nice and took us to the hotel where we could try to make our backpacks as light as possible to start trekking The next day we had a whirlwind tour of the major sights of the city which was ace. We saw the main buddhist temple with all its prayer flags and the cool eyes. We got to visit a painting school w
