A somewhat longer driving day.Leaving Santiago de Compostela we initially headed inland for some time then turned northward toward the coast again hitting the coastline at Ribadeo. From there to Bilbao it was mostly driving along an interstatetype highway albeit not yet complete to Bilbao. Along the way we stopped frequently to see views of the rugged coastline of Galicia Asturia and Cant

It took an hour to drive down the coast to Mundaka. Checked in to our hotel which was four kilometres out of Mundaka towards Gernika. Drove into down town Mundaka and found it extremely busy being a hot summers Sunday. The streets are very narrow and the countryside green and lush. We had some tapas at the local hotel and watched the teenagers dive off the rock platforms into the small port. We d

Portsmouth to Bilbao Tim and SueBit of a bumpy start our ferry departure was slightly delayed due to 'unseasonal weather'. The drive down to Portsmouth was an absolute shocker so no surprises that the ferry didn't turn up to dock until quite late. Here's hoping that this isn't going to continue on the crossing. It was bit of 'rough crossing' in various senses of the word. Generally OK we went

Wednesday 29th July Bilbao The Picos SantanderThe Guggenheim is an amazing building but I had to agree with the consensus that debated whether its content was worthy of its surroundings. That's partly because I don't really get gargantuan ultra modern sculptures those more refined would probably disagree. As a basic sort of chap. for me art is about pictures on canvas or other media and for

Day 455 10709Back to the Bus station again this time bound for Bilbao. We headed straight for the Guggenheim museum described as one of the worlds most impressive buildings. Past the random artistic monument which the Spanish love. We started with the tour of Chinese artist Cai Guo Qiang's ' I want to believe' exhibition. It was an awesome display of art using everything from cars fireworks

Just a short hour or so bus trip from San Sebastian we were there in no time. Found our little pension tucked away and our host speaks NO ENGLISH at all As we made our way through the instructions given we were off wondering yet again to look around the city. We were based in the outskirts of town but it was still just a short walk to get anywhere. First on our agenda was the Guggenheim Museum

Can you hear that Hannah's voice whispered at me from the cocoons of her sleeping bag. No I monotoned back through folds of sleep. In truth I thought I had heard something but was too sleepy to care that we were about to be eaten alive by foreign beasties. Don't go back to sleep Joel there's definitely something out there. That time I definitely heard it too a wet and warm snuffle an

We didn't have a chance to stop but passed the Guggenheim museum along the way to the Casco Viejo old town area. I felt like one of those ridiculous tourists who becomes trigger happy pointing and clicking at anything that comes along my way. We wandered through old town and sadly I didnt' really l

Apocalypse Cow

In the hills of Quieros near Brzana there lives a cow. Something is wrong with this cow. Kait who sleeps across the street from this cow was at first concerned for its wellbeing. But after two whole days of listening to its incessant demonic cowcalls now all she wants to do is bludgeon it to death with a blunt object. And so leaving Brzana was bittersweet. Fortunately we happened t

Onboard the Pont Aven The fezza trip was rocking well rocking in the same way that Chesney Hawkes is rocking in fact it was a little too much like a millpond. Well right up until the point when the captain announced the Orca Team had just spotted a whale on the right hand side of the boat. At which point the ferry keeled over to Starboard. You didn't think that one through did you skipW

This is the second time I have seen a carnival festival in streets so far. The first time was in Mannheim Germany some years ago. So I was still so excited to watch the crowd this time in Bilbao. The festival started on Saturday 21 Feb but there was firework one day before. I did not know the schedule of firework display so I was not prepared for that. However I could take some photos of firew

I have been enjoying Bilbao. I slept in yeterday the 6th as those ladies kept me up all night. I eventually got up and went to the Guggenheim museum. It was pretty neat....its one of those places you just cant keep walking by and not go into it. The first floor was cool. It had some huge instalations. The second floor had stuff by this dude name Cy Twombly. He is like 80 and still doing art. Yo
