my last day in Sweden i took the train an hour north to the Oxford of Sweden Uppsala so says my Rough Guide anyway. so glad i did. easily one of the highlights of the trip. the comparison to Oxford is a bit of a stretch but it is very compact and life does center around Uppsala University. inside the Carolina Rediviva which is the university library is a nottobemissed exhibition

Stayed up late last night listening to the SENS game unfortunately the website I usually stream games from wasn't working so I had to listen to the Team 1200 broadcast. It's better than nothing but Dave Schreiber and Gord Wilson aren't exactly the best commentators to say the least they always make it sound like the SENS are getting screwed by the refshave an excuse for every bad play but it ge

Instead of telling the same stories about my semester abroad over again to different people I figured it would be easiest to keep a blog about it so people could just read and get a more detailed idea of what my time over here has and will be like. I arrived here on January 15th and have been keeping a rough journal I guess you could call it in a word file but I might as well make it public so its

People love to say it I love to say it. In fact it's the German word for Oops so Germans probably love it too. A friend of mine told me recently that they even like typing it. The fact is Uppsala has the rare and elusive double header of being a charming place with a lovely sounding name to go with it. Very lovely place indeed especially in winter but more on the city itself later. Today we

The hour drive in the car gave Oom Gerrit and Mamma a wellneeded rest and time for me to somehow recover from my lostwalletordeal. Activity in old town was dwindling down as locals were locking their stores. We strolled around and discovered that we had an hour to visit t

Finish Packing Off to Stockholm

So we got up early and went to Bre's for the final cleanup then off to Stockholm to drop off the car. Stockholm is a crazy city to get around. Bridges and tunnels everywhere. Yah and try to say the names of the streets. Lastmakargatan Stora Nygatan Tegnergatan... Bre just laughs when we try. Oh well. We had to fill up the car and Ted put in E85 for the Toyota we were driving. Not realizing that

So up again early to head out to Lake Malaran for a BBQ with Bre. We stopped by the market for a onetime BBQ some steaks grill cheese fruit and such. Yes they have grill cheese. You actually throw it on the grill for a few minutes to get grill marks and then slice it up. It's like Tillamook squeeky cheese. Weird but good. We seemed to have gotten a defective grill cuz it took about an hour f

800am never came so soon I could have slept another few hours but we have things to do and places to go. We are staying at a nice home with a great host Kristina. She makes sure we have fresh baked bread and sliced cheese each morning for breakfast. The typical breakfast is bread meat and cheeses or yougart and granola. We have the whole half of the house. It kind of like a duplex. They have a

Because we couldn't get into our BB until 530pm we went to Bre's appartment and changed clothes and decided to check out downtown Uppsala. We stopped by the river for lunch and watch the bike riders. New partner in crime Rachel was up for a weekend away so we set off to Swedens fourth largest city Uppsala.Uppsala is a city famous for its university its cathedral and as the longtime home of Carl Linnaeus for the forg

29609We arrived back in Uppsala in the early afternoon. Our friends had made plans to go for a swim at the lake which sounded great as it was quite hot. We got ourselves organised and drove down Linnea had her mum's fancy black convertable car and Karen went with her. It's funny how Scandinavians make the most of what little Sun they get by flocking to small grassymuddy beaches. We've even had some nice sunny weather which has been just dandy The first half of our time here we spent with Jen and she's been really good to us.
