Another day in Glacier

I have had a couple of laid back days in the area. Just took it easy Tuesday still recovering from my run. Wednesday I decided to go back into Glacier and do another hike. I decided to hike Otokiimo Lake. It is 5.2 miles one way and gains about 1900 feet up the trail. It was a tough hike and I was really working to cover the distance. The clear blue green water of the lake made the tough w

I am pretty sore from my run yesterday. I hung around the place for a while and finally decided to go back to Glacier and go for a hike. I went to the Many Glacier area of the park and decided to do the Iceburg Lake hike. It is five miles one way I was a bit concerned going out by myself after all the bear warnings. I was very aware of every noise around me. While I was walking two birds wal

Glad to be in one place for several days. All of the driving in the last week has been rough. From the parking area at my condo I can see several of the ski runs at the Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort. I got up and drove over to Glacier National Park. The natural beauty hits you as soon as you drive in the park and gets better as you drive. The park is crossed from west to east by one main roa

My dear friend Robin and I both took our first trip to Montana to hike around Glacier National Park over the Labor Day holiday. It's both stunning and breathtaking just to pick a couple of words to describe the majesty of the park. We arrived late Thursday and took a quick trip into the West Glacier entrance driving for a little bit along Lake McDonald. We had rented a timber frame cottage o

We spent the day today crossing Glacier National park via the famous Going to the Sun Highway. Thanks to all of you who recommended that we drive it from east to west the views were amazing. However the weather wasn't. When we left this morning it was in the mid40's with the raging wind it felt more like the 30's. However your intrepid travelers soldiered on we weren't going to be de

After Grand Teton National park we headed north to Montana and visited Glacier National Park. The park is on the border with Canada where it becomes Waterton Lakes National Park. The park is big and everything there is remote bears are everywhere. From the park newspaper ldquoIn 1850 there were an estimated 150 glaciers in the park. By 1968 the number was reduced to around 50. Today only 26

Today was our last day at Glacier and what a day we had. We decided to go for distance over elevation and walked the trail along the north side of Lake McDonald. It was mostly level with just a few elevation changes but meant walking 3 miles from Apgar to the trailhead 6 miles on the trail and then about 3 miles back to the highway to catch the shuttle bus back to where we left the car.
Greetings from Glacier National Park Next year will be their 100th anniversary and they are already starting the celebration. The park is as beautiful now as it was when we were last here 37 years ago. A new feature which is great is a shuttle bus system that runs east and west across the park. Cuts down on traffic across the park and makes it possible to go on the Going to the Sun Highway an

Spent another day in the very nice Glacier Park. Drove to the Saint Mary's Visitor's Center and took the shuttle up to the Logan's Pass Visitor's Center. Walked the trail up to Hidden Lake which is probably the one you are thinking of mom. Had to trudge my way through the snow for probably 34 of the way and I did see some mountain goats when I got near the lake overview. Took the shuttle b

Forgot that I lost an hour so I didn't have a lot of time to explore today. The hostel is near the Two Medicine Lakes area and I was able to walk a couple of trails around there to a couple of waterfalls. Planning on drivi

The HikersMy boss Ann introduced me to a local women's hiking group. They hike every Thursday. Sometimes the hikes are in the park sometimes not but they are always long and usually pretty hard. To date I am the youngest in the group. The baby. It's nice. Usually I am the old lady of the group. It is however very humbling to hike with these women. If I am the oldest I can use that as

We had seen much wildlife and had a great hike. Both of us were excited about Glacier thinking it would be even more impressive less populated and more dramatic in the scenery. We were a little unsure of the weather however as it was a
